Hi all,

I am planning to start my PADI DM course, but I am wondering if the timing is right. I have read that the MULTI-LEVEL eRDPML computer will replace the wheel/tables. Are the DM courses now being taught using the computer rather than the wheel? What about the exams?

I don't think I want to start the course if the wheel is still being utilized but being replaced by the eRDPML in the near future. I would rather wait until the manuals/exams have been switched over to the computer.

Wheel is already obsolete and unavailable. Erdpml has been standard for a year

I'll second that. I have my exam Monday night, and according to my instructor there are no wheel questions, just eRDPml.

There are still wheel questions in the study guide though (at least my version).

Might be you have a little older version of the study guide. And whatsoever, the eRDPml will do on these questions as well.

The eRDPml is one of the simplest devices you'll ever get to use. It 'talks' you through, and almost no thinking is required any more. Really handy.
However, some instructors still explain the use of the wheel in the DM course, since it gives some insight in the use of ML-tables.

The Wheel is not being used any more, so don't mind and just start the course, 'cause it's great!

Just took the exam a couple of weeks ago using the eRDPml.
If you take the time to read the booklet that comes with the computer and do the practice examples then using it for the test is no problem.

there is also a table within the booklet that you need to work from for (find the next level) questions. my instructor allowed me to use the booklet for this purpose in the exam.

I finished my DM knowledge reviews last month and it was tables and eRDPml. Most of the class had little to do with them and more to do with everything else. If you were thinking of delaying your DM class solely because of the wheel, I suggest you not worry about it and just take the class.

It's the most extensive dive education of any class between Discovery Scuba and DM.

Thanks to everyone. I was really wondering because when I did the OW and AOW in August 2008, everything was done with the wheel/tables. Never any mention of the eRDPml at any time. So I have no experience using the computer. I thought it was something fairly new, but I guess I was mistaken.

Thanks also for the encouragement on signing up for the course! I'm off in October to begin it...

I too was worried about learning the wheel vs. the ERDPml as I did my DM in June 09. As mentioned above the questions have been modified so just read the manual carefully and once you master the ERDPml, it is most easy and fun to use. Until my LCD screen 'crapped out' and I had to return it!!! Have fun
