IMHO DAN has way to many problems going on right now for me to consider their insurance.

Have you even researched the issue?

The problem is with just one provider (that is overcharging BTW). DAN has gone out of it's way to work through this issue. http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/news/article.asp?newsid=723

Do you know if you even dive where this provider is?

It's one thing if you make your own descisions based on partial information. But don't make blanket statements and expect others to blindly follow you.

I have DAN and am researching gear insurance. Trip I get thru my travel agent. I have standing order any time I go thru her to just figure in the cost. Next trip I'm shipping my gear to the op and the carrier insures to replacement value. Of course I'm taking my reg, computer, mask and safety gear(sausage, divealert, whistle, mirror) with me.

DAN, I would not dive without it. I have, unfortunatly, had to use it and they were excelent, paid for the chamber and no muss no fuss, paid the whole thing. The deluxe package which includes trip insurance is just a couple of dollars more, so I say, for the price difference, why not?

I recently had a very long conversation with someone at DAN and I now feel very comfortable with their insurance again. DAN does a lot for all of us and I will continue to support them. The recent issues are issues for all of us and all of the other carriers and DAN has decided to take a stand against an unreasonable "greedy" chamber owner who has decided to publicize his pursuit of collecting on these unreasonable charges. This will affect all of us in both cost and service if they don't take a reasonable stand here and I will continue to support them.

I have also been one of the doubters on this board in the past and I have stated my concerns but when something happens or you have questions....who do you call? You don't call PADI, you don't call Dive Assure.....but someone at DAN is always there to answer your questions. I will support that.

As far as the recent chamber issues I feel confident that no matter what and no matter where the chamber I am at, including those in question, DAN will pay for my costs and I will not have to worry about having extra funds on the CC to pay for it myself. I do want DAN to maintain reasonable costs for insurance and not become like PADI so I will continue to support them as they have all of us in the past. They have help forward diving worldwide for all of us and as far as I am concerned....they are the only place I will spend my insurance $$ as long as they remain competitive.

As far as equipment and travel insurance, DAN is not competitive to my home insurance (because of all the camera people) and trip insurance is still a cheaper in alternative places. DAN uses all 3rd party companies for this anyway.

I have had Dan Insurance since I became a diver. I have their top plan. I hope I never have to use but if I did I am very comefortable in them making the arrangements. I wish that I could use their gear insurance but it does not cover if you live outside of the US. I have no fear about this so called problem. If there was truly an issue I believe DAN would have contacted its members to inform them.

the gear coverage is if something happens to year gear on a trip not from a diving incident.

As for chambers droping DAN, from what I understand that is incorrect. There is a few chambers how have been overcharging and DAN does not want to pay for the over cost. Why h should this one guys chambers cost more then anyone elses. From what I have read and heard, there has been an understanding and DAN DOES have worldwide coverage.

Thanks for all the responses, guess I have some more homework to do. One of the main reasons I asked is because I was wondering what my current health care provider would cover and not cover and I was curious how many actually just used there current health care provider (like cigna or BCBS) to cover them for a diving accident and if they actually would.

I don't understand why a healthcare provider would not cover you if you had an accident while diving and what the need for additional coverage is.
