Hi all,

I am a newly certified diver with less than 5 dives since my certification dives. I was wondering if most divers enroll in diver protection insurance. As a newbie, I would like to get some insight from the experienced divers on this nice site. I am thinking that insurance is probably a good safety measure in the event that something would happen down below.

I have been reading a lot of information on this site and must say that it is well run with a wealth of information.

Thank you in advance for your input.

Phil

I think for the most part, most of us carry DAN insurence (Diver's Alert Network). Its not too much a year and everyone that I know that had had an incident said DAN was there for them.

Phil,

Congratulations on becoming a diver. Diving is something I can’t get enough of.

I carry DAN insurance because it’s pretty low cost relative the costs of a dive accident.

Honestly, I can’t imagine diving without carrying some kind of dive insurance. PADI offers a dive insurance policy also.

Regards,

Randy

Wendy & Randy,

Thanks for your input. I have been leaning towards DAN insurance as well. I guess it's better to have it and not need it, than to not have it and need it. Especially since I plan on diving as often as I can, once I buy the rest of my gear.

Cheers,
Phil

I just signed up for DAN, and I have not even taken my first class. I start on the 14th but wanted to have it the day i start. $29 well worth it to me. I would pay the $29 just for the information you get on their webpage. Great Deal in my opinion

My ow class we were covered under insurencethru DAN I think and we didn't have to pay. Then we had the option of paying for it once we were certified. But better safe than sorry. I get the master level insurance. Its the middle priced one.

No! That's not enough!

That's the base membership, required before you purchase the insurance. Your instructor may or may not cover you as a Scuba student, but I'd suggest getting the coverage anyway. $100 a year total, for the top choice, I think.

Even if you think you are covered by your regular medical insurance, this can get you treated faster and with less hassle, less chance of having to pay up front then get reimbursed.

I carry DAN diver insurance and just signed up for their equipment insurance as well.

DAN= Divers Alert Network is the way to go.Peace

I've never had a scuba accident, but have known a couple of people that have while on trips (one got bitten by a spider, of all things, and had to be air-lifted off the live-aboard!). I consider dive insurance to be part of the standard equipment.
