The Tiger zoo with organised feeding is one thing, but spotting a Tiger Shark right next to you in the deep when you don’t expect to see them is eerie and chilling!

I did 33 dives on my trip and every dive we saw Tigers. Sometimes we would be 1km away out at sea doing deep dives and there they were, 5 or 6 swimming around. Read my post above about my dive buddy. Same thing happened to me. I was at end of the group when signaled to turn around. I do so and a short time later a 4.5m Tiger is swimming around 1.5m distance at same depth swimming past me. Truly no time to be afraid just enjoy the moment in time.

Tiger Zoo the dive ops have their time to be there and on one dive only 4 divers plus guides.

Tiger wall is where you see other stuff but always Tigers swimming past above you below you and I had one swim from the deep vertical up the wall right past me. Best dives are where the tigers come out of the blue at you and then turn away or circle you.

Three years ago I watched the Tiger Shark picking up fish carcasses from Tiger Zoo’s pit from the blue. Afterwards I said to myself that I want to be up close and personal with them at Tiger Zoo. So, I finally book a trip with Fuvahmulah Dive School to be there on 2-6 March 2025.

Hope you can do more than one dive there. I did 13 dives at Tiger Zoo. Two days vis was terrible but still fun. In the end the guides would have me and a few others who did the dive everyday a lot closer to the feeding spots. There are some craggy rocks you can sort of get behind.

Enjoy your trip. Also do the dive sites to the far right of the harbour entrance as you come in, some fun wall dives where Tigers cruise by.

Thanks! We plan to do 3 dives / day for 3 days (9 dives total). At least 3 dives in Tiger Zoo.

Yeah the dive ops have scheduled times and 30 mins at the Tiger Zoo. We were there around 11am each day. Good time as sun overhead but we had some poor weather and the sharks and Tuna's and other fish stir up a lot of sand at times.

You will enjoy those three dives. Now not knowing where your liveaboard will park itself to the dive site... if you come straight in from the ocean directly at the site do watch as Tigers will be passing along the wall at various depths its good to video when other divers are there in case one gets nibbled on. lol oops my dang sense of humour. I will have lots of video and photos to go through. Posted some on scuba board uncencored any my FB name Avai Vayayana.

As the guides were fine with my diving I got to get to a small outrock maybe 3m away from one feeding spot. It was fun but you really need to pay attention to sharks coming from your left or right not just in front or overhead. The guides will hover a bit behind. I few times I was actually looking past them and had to warn them of approaching Tigers they had not seen. I got to know some by sight but one morning we had a very skittish smaller Tiger maybe 2m in length and it was more unpredictable.

My white shirt did not seem to attract the sharks more than divers in full black. One guide wore a full blue wetsuit head to fins.

See if they will put you closer to the feeding station as you are experienced with Tigers.
Not sure how it works with your guides from the LOB.

I’m leading my group of 22 divers to dive in Maldives Far South route on Maldives Master (Master Liveaboard’s new Liveaboard after Blue Voyager burned down). See the link (below) for the trip detail. We’ll probably dive near Tiger Zoo from the blue side one time when we are in Fuvahmulah. I remember back in 2021, we were facing the sun (East) when we’re there in the morning. So we just saw silhouette of the Tiger Shark picking fish carcasses from the pit.

That’s why after this trip, some of us add 3 more days of diving with Fuvahmulah Dive School (FDS) as the divers from FDS would have sun light behind them, looking at the pit with the deep blue background, perfect angle for shooting video.

I believe the timings allowed for any dive shop at Tiger Zoo may change depending on allotment of permits each week, and you may not necessarily get morning slots when you arrive. The LOB will likely tie up with a local dive shop for the dives at the Tiger Zoo due to the requirement of local guides mandated by local laws and the permits may be for late morning or even 3pm dives the entire week…

I’m referring to this shot:

You see the FDS divers’ silhouette in the background. One of DM’s told me I was too close. I guess they haven’t been to Tiger Beach (Bahamas), where we push away the Tiger Sharks.

Great. There is a young chap Max from the UK who is a marine biologist studying and identifying Tigers at FDS.

Yeah they assume no one has done close up shark diving before so are wanting to makre sure no one gets nibbled.
Max said his greatest fear is not when we are at the feeding station but getting to and from the boat.

Tiger Wall another location where you can see Tigers cruising by. I like it when they are there not at the feeding station.
