Did it chomp the head off first?

Who knows, certainly capable of doing so yes?

This taken today at Tiger Zoo on my TG6 no strobes or video lights.

First dive of the day was a deep wall dive and good vis. Towards the end of the dive we are about at 15m depth and the guides have headed to the open ocean to put up DSMB for out boat to pick us up. My dive buddy is still near the wall but around 30m distance from us. He is the laggard today lol

I and a few other divers see a Tiger Shark perhaps 4.5m Tiger shark cruising towards my dive buddy. No point to alert him really the Tiger Shark passes at same depth and my buddy just stops moving. No time to be scared or grab his camera. Just enjoy the moment as a truly wonderful apex predator nonchalanlty cruises by within a couple of meters from him. That will be burned into our memories.

Visibility at Tiger Zoo was pretty bad. Excuse my photo quality but the diving was still a lot of fun. There is just the bad vis and haze and then you are face to face with a nice gentle creature of the ocean.

Some more examples of what happens when you go shark diving with the wrong dive operator … 🤦🏻

We dive at Tiger Zoo with a pole keep it vertical so the Tigers need to avoid it. Worked fine. Will post some vids to my you later and you can see some of the fun dives we had. In fact for me the best dives are at tiger wall and when we head to open ocean to the boat and several tigers will circle us from below and pass by at same depth. Far more natural than the feeding station.

This one had to push away using my camera rig and pole as it came down the slope.

Now you know how to be up close & personal with Tiger Sharks, your next destination is Tiger Beach.

I gently pushed Tiger Sharks with my camera a few times.
Pressing its nose (tonic immobility spot) also works. That’s why some guide was able to flip a huge Tiger Sharks over.

One of our guides wearing a blue wetsuit decided it was a good idea to scrape his tank to attract attention. Tigers are so gracefull as they swim around and disappear in and out view.

The Tiger zoo with organised feeding is one thing, but spotting a Tiger Shark right next to you in the deep when you don’t expect to see them is eerie and chilling! My trip was a bit disappointing because by a coincidence a large group of 18 divers landed on the same day as me to dive with the same dive shop and things got really overcrowded and it was a bit of a killjoy. However on the other dives I had a dive guide exclusively to myself as the collective group was split into their own small groups of 6. We dived separately as a pair away from the crowds as I requested the dive guide not to lump me with the large crowd of divers at the same site, which he obliged on most dives.

It was a strange admixture of momentary terror and thrill on occasions to instinctively look over my shoulder in deep dark waters and spot a full sized Tiger Shark casually overtake me just a few arm lengths away and disappear into the deep… the wave of relief when you realise it’s not interested in you brings elation with it about the wild encounter… There’s a 99.99% chance you won’t survive an encounter like this with a Tiger or Lion when on land on a forest hike for example so to be able to experience this with another Apex predator underwater is a very special feeling …

The footage is taken with a small aperture wide-angle actioncam but you can imagine the experience of looking at it close with the naked eye…
