Marshal and I escaped the South swell and headed to the Southbay for a dive off Vets Park. Upon arrive we were both struck by the number of divers there, as the South side of the parking lot was nearly full.

With the PV peninsula sheltering the bay, the surface conditions were fine, swell 1-2' with lulls and the waves had little energy. We headed directly out from the steps and dropped down just outside the open water class buoys. We headed South to the Monument and found it easily. Not much hanging out there today, so continued the dive by heading down slope to add a 10' increment to Marshal's personal depth record. By then we were definitely in the thermocline but the cold, dark, green water felt invigorating after the recent summer heat. We planed off at 85' and floated there a moment letting the silence surround us.

Our computers gave us the nudge and we started back up the slope to be greeted by warm water, sunlight and sand-dollars.
