I recently picked up about $1800 worth of dive equipment for about $1200. Should I insure this and if so, how do I do it. It involves, BC, regulator, octo, vyper computer, compass, knife, weights. What do you experts think?

it SHOULD be covered under your home-owner/renters
policy (assuming you don't have MANY THOUSANDS of
dollars worth of gear)

You would need to prove you owned it and you'll want
to be compensated REPLACEMENT cost, not "how much
is it worth".

talk to your insurance agent.
