maybe youll see him on tv as he will be diving the Monitor during the summer.

The Monitor is a far cry from a 200 mile long underwater cave that doesn't exist. ;)

i don't know about you, but i think diving a non-existant cave is a pretty big accomplishment. i mean, jeez... a real cave anybody can dive!

but that's just me

i believe the longest cave in the world is called mammoth at give or take 300 miles long.

Seems like the instructor has done some diving. The student seems less informed. Nothing personal Cali, but the dive simply doesn't exist. If it did, and logistics were feasible, there would be a line of folks waiting. There would be an UW Mickey D's every 25 miles for sustenance.
Maybe he's dove 200 miles of cave in his life. I know many folks who have done this, but not all at once. Usually in 1-2 mile increments.

Cali, just so you know, cave diving isn't that hard, but BSing a group with several cave divers in that group is very difficult.

Cheers,
Jamie (a member of the 200+ mile club, but not all in one hundred dives)

OK, calm down everyone.. I think it's safe to say that California Diver is simply trolling at this point.

Was a good troll, though.

This thread is entertaining and all, but I really find some of your statements disturbing California Diver. I really don't care what dives Steve has done and I'm glad he's still around to regale you with his stories. However, you've eluded to the fact that he's done some crazy stuff and that he's still around to and not dead after doing these dives, and my question for you is, are you suprised by that? Why do you look at a dive that is "deep" or "long" as crazy? I remember talking to AG about a dive one time and eluded to the fact that a particular dive was not all that deep at 300'. To some people those types of dives are not crazy at all. To some people it's just as normal as a recreational diver making a 20' reef dive.

I think what you need to consider is that when it becomes an ego driven thing to go long or deep, that you may need to take a break and get some perspective on diving so you don't get youself hurt. Of course, that's my advise...take it or leave it.

jonnythan:
$50 says you've never been in a cave ;)

Took cave classes in 1998/9 from Gary Taylor, IANTD. - now at Oceanic Ventures, Houston: Technical EANx Cave, Adv. Cave (Survey), and Advanced Cave (Multi-Stage). There are underwater caves (not systems, per se) here in Central Texas lakes/rivers - we futz around in them. Nothing here is like Central Florida, Slovakia, or Quintana Roo, though. Maybe if I moved to Gainesville..., wait, then I'd have to give up 75 IQ points.
