have you talked to Vie? He's on here... also from Bangkok and just got done with DIR-F

ben

Vie and myself have been exchanging alot of PM. Usually it's me writing to ask him about stuffs on equipment and DIR stuffs. Since I haven't have the chance to take the DIR-F yet but wanted to configure my gears DIR so have to learn through self-studies on this boards, readings on DIR-Fundamental of Better Diving, and helps from people with experience. He has been very helpful.

Yeah, I am studying DM exam right now... A lot of reading. I couldn't study that much because of my main work schedule.... LOL~~~ I am thinking about DIR-F after finishing my DM and tech class this year. Let's see how it goes....

Hope you will enjoy your rescue class. Personally, I think that it is one of most exciting class I have attended.

I have started my DM course for 3 months already. Some interesting and knowlegeable information. Targeted to complete within the end of this year and really hope to be able to do my DIR-F some time soon.

Just remember to talk to your instructor when you started your DM if you are planning to use long hoses. Though haven't done my DIR-F yet, I have started to use long hose setup. My instructor expects me to have standard gears so I will need to have the snorkel all the time and so on................... He is pretty strict on the idea that as a DM, we are a "role model" for the fellow divers. For this reason, I have decided to use my long hose setup for personal diving and stick to the regular setup for all my DM activities. Hope you might be luckier than me.

Enjoy!!!!!!

Point taken,

I am also using the ordinary BC, not BP/W set up for the class.
I don't see any rec. instructors who wear BP/W set up in my region. So, I keep up with them as much as possilbe. I am also told that some shops do not want that instructors and DM are using other brands' equipments that are not carried in the shop. LOL~~~

I use BC jacket for confine water assistance as it is easier for me to domonstrate skills such as taking BC off and on on the surface and underwater. I do use my BP/W setup for openwater. But for long hose, I will leave it out of my DM activities for now.

That's not really what the role model is or should be about as a DM. The role model should be about one's diving skills, ability to handle small problems before they become a big problem (i.e. anticipate), safety, attitude and awarness, etc. Instructors who believe that being a role model is about what type of gear the students see the DMs in are missing the big picture.
