Yeah, Mike, I'd bet many locals get breaks, if not only those created by being friends or familiar. I'd equate it to someone having a transit card or other discount card - which some tourist destinations do have for residents.

Hey, I think someone sent your weather down here to Georgia. Will you please call it back home?

Sorry about that! We finally warmed up again, it's been like 10 degrees all week and today it was up to 50, having a heat wave.

I heard they are going to see 30 degrees in Miami!!!:shocked2:

I think the airport van tickets are priced in MXN & USD both.

You aren't paying ridiculous prices to share a van, wait for it to fill up and then stop at multiple hotels are you??
Walk to the traffic circle and grab your OWN cab cheap and direct to your hotel.

This again? Eight bucks is not exorbitant, and I travel with a lot of stuff. I'm not hoofing it out to the circle where there may or not be a cab (the authorities run them all off from time to time) with 100 lbs of equipaje. The shuttle is just fine for me; YMMV.

You know, if many folks took your advice, then cabs would get very hard to get out there and/or the police would shut it down to solve the inevitable traffic jam. My advice to those who want to walk out to try to get a cab at the circle is to keep quiet about it.

I did the trek to the circle once and decided I'll stick with the vans. More hassle than the few dollars and minutes are worth, to me anyway.

That's one of my pet peeves really, but I carry more luggage than Gordy - more than anyone else probly. Well, you'll hear 300#, but 2 - 70# bag, 1 - 40# roll-on, and a computer backpack with cameras & more is just too much to drag further than the front door. My favorite duffel bag doesn't have wheels so if I substitute that, I use a porter.

One time when I was escaping on the 5am ferry before H.Dean could hit, I got to the ferry dock before trike-porters and had to carry my excessive load to the ferry, including the duffel without wheels. I'd carry three bags 50 ft, lay them down, go back for it, leap frog it 100 ft, go back for the first pile, repeat. I create my own learning experiences, but I deal with them ok so far.

Gordy likes the vans. I don't, but I guess they are better than 10 times as many cabs.
