It says some left Feb 27. Maybe the WHO is to blame because they were downplaying the impact. They didn't declare a WW pandemic until declaring a pandemic on March 11th.
Any sane person would never believe a single word comes from that organization!! They took order from china and saying that the virus was not contiguous and have to retract it 4 days later.
HK SAR Gov have already checking the temp of those arriving from communist china as early as 04th Jan.
We have our first confirmed case on 24th Jan.
Italy has its first reported case on 31st Jan.

No touch medical grade forehead thermometer. In the future probably more accurate thermal cameras to pull aside people for more directed screening.

there was enough news by March 9 to know traveling internationally was risky - some folks just seem to have poor judgement.
Well, we had planned a trip during Easter. A rather expensive one. If we had cancelled the trip before the official advice not to travel was out, the whole cost would've been on us. And I want to believe that we weren't the only ones who didn't quite realize the seriousness of the situation just some 5-7 weeks ago. It was only a few days before the national lockdown that the official advice changed to "do not travel abroad". We decided to cancel our vacation about a week before the official advice changed, and it was quite a bit of a relief when the advice was changed because that meant that our travel insurance would cover the loss.

But if you won't se the writing on the wall after the warning came out, you're on your own. Your decision, your risk. Own it.

To non-divers, diving is considered non-essential.
And to some divers, it's considered only marginally essential

I just don't understand how they do that without equipment to do that.
What equipment are you talking about?
IR temp sensors are more or less standard equipment in every airport. While hand held forehead thermometer is nothing new and inexpensive. Every school in HK would have few of those ready.
HK and Republic of China(Taiwan) managed to control the spreading of the virus because we know the importance of one item : surgical mask.

I am aware of the temperature sensors in Hong Kong (because I've flown through HK multiple times) and other countries. This "should" be standard in Canada, but it's not.
Why aren't airport customs agents taking people's temperatures? | Montreal Gazette

These sensors are not quire as available as you would think right now. I am a supervisor in a large nursing home, and we have been trying to get non-contact temp sensors for over 3 weeks. We finally got a couple of them 2 days ago, and we are working them endlessly. We have a lot of catching up to do over here, and god knows where it will end.
