From Cayman 27 : Elderly diver dies on diving trip
Police have begun an investigation into the death of a 70-year-old woman who passed away this morning Monday, 13 September 2010 around 10:45 a.m., following a diving trip off Little Cayman.

Police say the female visitor was from Texas and got into difficulties while scuba diving in the waters off Little Cayman. “CPR was implemented by the district nurse but to avail. She was transported to the Faith Hospital in Cayman Brac where she was found to be dead on arrival.”

Police say it appears that she was not travelling with any family or friends.

Enquiries into the death are ongoing.

prayers to family

Any word on whether she was shore diving, or if not, which operation she was diving with? Sounds like a cardiac event based purely on the age and limited description of "difficulties", but hopefully we will get more info. T&P...

RIP. We recently returned from Little Cayman; FWIW it was mentioned that LCBR was the only resort operating on the island during this, their low season. Of course the Agressor may still be operating, as well as boats from Brac or even GC. I will mention that we (admittedly still newer divers at about 85 dives) were a bit surprised by the advanced age of some of the divers we met there - up to and including 70's plus. I remember thinking that with that age group of divers, they must see at least a few medical issues at depth from time to time.

Our thoughts to freinds and family.

I hope I'm lucky enough to still be blowing bubbles at 70+.

I'll say a prayer for the family. :depressed:
I also hope I'm still diving at 70!

As tragic that it is for this family to loose a beloved family member, how majestic it must be to be diving at 70. She had to be an awesome mom and grandma!
