Otter, the colors of that pic of the nudi are fantastic! I've never seen one quite like that around here.

I'm all for the dive report thread. But why not just keep this thread and keep on posting here? That way, we can see the evolution over the months. Divebum.com does that well for SD.

Did two dives yesterday at the Casino Dive Park. Winds kicked up when I reached the dive shop, rain started when I git the Dive Park, vis closed in as soon as I entered the water and current picked up strong by my second dive.

Will we ever get decent dive days this summer?

Looks like we should move down to SD right now. Everybody says the conditions have been excellent for the past couple of weeks.

Dive Site: Italian Gardens Catalina
Dive Time: 10:24 A.M. to 11:11 A.M. 7/20/03
Visibility: 10-15
Max Depth 47 feet
Water Temp max depth: 64 Suunto degrees
Water Temp above 34 feet was in the 66-68 range but
Air Temp 68 Suunto Degrees
Surge: None
Sightings: usual suspects, opal eye, blacksmith, California sheep head, halfmoon calico bass.

Sighted so many Mola on the sail over and back I lost count. 6 or 7 in one group and several single ones.
:)

Water: cold (59° @ 70)
Viz: bad
Divers: way too many

The planktons is still happily blooming.

Surge picked up on both Sat. & Sunday after 3PM, making any night dive out of the question.

The best conditions were at the old pier, in the 30 foot range (20 ft viz, against 5 mid-way to the Sue-Jac).

Oscar is alive and well. The highlight of the weekend came from 2 giant black bass swimming by. An awesome sight.

Divers Cove
Water 74 degrees @ 20 feet, Viz 5-7', Surf occasional 2-3, surge a consistent 4-6 feet.

While the water temp was nice -- no hood, no gloves :)
The viz is still less than desirable :(

Divers Cove, Laguna Beach
Water Temp 70F
Viz 15+ (yes!!!!)
Surge 1'-2' max -- yes!!!
Surf -- flat to occasional 1'-2'

A great way to finish dive 4 for our students! Saw the family of Bat Rays on the surface swim out and could spend some quality time on a tour of the reef off at splash rock.

This is the compromise I would like to keep.....reasonable viz AND warm-ish water....its not Coz, but close...ok. well not close. But its closer to home!

What are conditions like?

Conditions are favorable! Shaw's Cove this morning was a little cooler than recent temps... 68 degrees, but that is still ideal for here! The vis was 12-15 ft, with minimal surf and occasional surge. Vis is definitely improving overall!

We saw lots of seastar limbs today... kinda curious. A large dead seastar last week and another dying today. Any thoughts? Natural predators or a die-off?

I think we should change the little thumbs down icon to thumbs up for this thread!
