The current taxi rates for Cozumel are anyones guess and good luck getting a rate card from them. The method a lot of drivers use is like this spin the wheel. From Melia to Chankannab your probably gonna pay atleast 600 pesos each way.

Paying in USD is anyprice (cab can set any exchange rate they want).
I found this to be the most effective.

The taxi issues in Coxumel are a direct comparison to the "pier fees" in Cozumel. Neither is inviting to divers, nor are either inviting to tourists. Even if the pier fees detract from my desire to visit Cozumel, the other fraudulent behaviors in Cozumel like the taxi fees make it very unappealing for me to make Cozumel a "must-visit" dive destination.

It is a very cheap place to visit and dive even with an extra 2-3 dollars in a cab fare from time to time. The people there are great as well. Many people fixate on the tree and miss the forest.

For me...the forest is filled with corruption. Not a way of life I am tempted to support. To each his own.

I agree. We have travelled substantially across the world, and have found the same to be true in many places. Just because it's true doesn't make it acceptable. I will accept what is acceptable and do my best to change what's unacceptable or at least not fund it. Until we all vote with our money, things will not change.

I live in the USA and travel abroad regularly, haven’t found a place void of corruption if people are there.
