Here's a couple of links on the "Arktos" name. "Arktos" is the Greek name for "Bear" and often is used in the context of the "Constellation of the Bear" or "Ursa Major" It may also be used in reference to the "Arctic". It describes the far norther parts of the Earth where the Great Bear constellation dominates the heavens.
The second link refers to an expedition that circumnavigated the North Pole.
