Hopefully I can give you the view from a spearfisher's perspective........
The USA is very unique in that we are one of the only countries that allow spearfishing and hunting on Scuba Gear. Most every other country in the world requires ALL HUNTING by freediving only. {hunting on scuba is considered an unfair advantage}
In Fiji,, remember that each village is run by the 'chief'. The national government has very little enforcement or power in a village. If the chief allows Scuba/UBA/Hooka/Etc then it takes place. Just because a national minister says 'no' they really can't enforce it since they don't have the resources or money. In the village,,,it's the chief that has the power and enforcement.
We are just as cruel to land animals. But its easier to see the enemy across the ocean
You may see people who eat land animals being cruel to the animals because you don’t eat them. How convenience of you.
I eat pretty much everything, including meat. But, I eat meat from farm raised animal, not any exotic animal that may be hard to get. I would avoid eating things that would affect the ecological balance of nature, like shark fins soup, which is nothing but tasteless cartilage, so I was told.
Why is it convenient? I choose not to eat meat because I dont agree with killing animals. Regardless of their size, type, domestication or whether they are exotic or not. To me a life is a life, regardless who is the "superior species." I dont judge people who eat it, as everyone can make their own decision on what is ethical or not. But when people say "we're the top of the food chain so we have the right to do whatever we like" then how is that way of thinking any different from what the chinese are doing with sharks? With that line of reasoning, the chinese have every right to do as they please cause they're "the top dog."
In america, killing sharks for fins is unethical. In other parts of the world, killing animals for meat is unethical and sacrilige. Who is right? Depends on which side of the border you were born on i guess. The arguement that land animals are less endangered than sharks still doesnt make the end result any different. Humans are responsible for killing animals/fish because they feel they have the authority and right to do so because they are the most "intelligent" species. Our acts in history certainly prove the opposite.
I personally try to do my part on this earth to keep my carbon footprint at a minimum. I have seen the oceans population deteriorate at an alarming rate overo the last 15 years all over the world where i have travelled. Its sad and sickening at the same time. I made a choice to let sealife and land animals live as they have every right to do so on this planet just as we do. Why kill something just because we can? Its a piss poor arguement to do so just because we can and because we're not sending them to extinction.
Plants are also life too. They grow from seeds to plants. They just don’t have eyes to look back at you to plead for not being chopped and eaten. So, you let them die first, before you eat them? LOL
Do plants have feelings? Do they have mothers? Do they scream when you separate them at birth from their mother and then chop them up so you can enjoy a veal sandwich? Didnt think so. Once again, stop trying to justify your decision.
Plants dont have a nervous system so there is no pain experienced. When an animal is hurt, they nurse their wound and seek to avoid those who hurt them. They scream out in pain when they are being abused or hurt. Mothers even cry out for days/weeks at a time when their baby has been separated from them and if left free, will go searching for it.
I guess you think lettuce and beans will do the same when I go pluck them from their mother, right? L O L
So, you are against a lion pouncing on a baby deer, crying in pain, seeing the mother deer crying out for days / weeks at a time when her baby has been slaughtered by the lion? That’s called nature. Welcome to the real world.
Are you sure? I've seen cats that brought back dead birds to their owners every morning. Seemed like bragging to me.Lions and all other animals do that to survive. Humans do it through choice, NOT survival. Thats the difference.
Humans also do it for sport, to show other small men how tough they are. Try killing an elephant or lion without a weapon and see who is stronger. Oh, and animals dont hang other animals heads up in their living room for bragging rights.
