...was just too far ahead of its time. I used it and loved it....it was a very stable system.

wow, what a blast from the past. I too used O2/2 for a while and enjoyed the stability provided vs. Windows at the time.
Along similar lines, Betamax was a better video format, but VHS was marketed better and untilmately survived.

Agreed....a good product but certainly not superior. Superiority in the OS market demands the software to be usable and intuitive for the less technical user i.e. the home user, and OS2 was anything but user friendly. It hardly crashed, it supported true multi-tasking way ahead of its time etc etc.....but it had tough competition.
We're seeing a similar contender in Linux (for the desktop). This time around, it seems to be a closer run thing.
