See Post #5 here: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/new-divers-those-considering-diving/265069-help-me-pick-my-reg.html
In turn, it links to http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/oceanic/241083-cold-water-regulators.html See Post 6
All of which leads to the fact that the Oceanic Delta 4/FDX10 is now the regulator of choice for cold water diving for NOAA and the Coast Guard. Apparently the Navy is also using it.
As I indicated on that thread, I would skip the DVT stuff and buy the less expensive version Oceanic Delta 4 Non-Swivel FDX10 Non-DVT Regulator but that's just me!
As to the octo: it needs to be just as capable. I might try another Delta 4 second stage.
My other choice would be the ScubaPro Mk17/G250V.
FWIW, I don't own either of these regulators. The only high end regulator I have purchased is the Dive Rite Hurricane and I bought that because Dive Rite sells the parts kits to end users and also releases the maintenance manual on their web site. Not that I plan to work on regulators but I like to encourage these practices.
