All of which leads to the fact that the Oceanic Delta 4/FDX10 is now the regulator of choice for cold water diving for NOAA and the Coast Guard. Apparently the Navy is also using it.

As I indicated on that thread, I would skip the DVT stuff and buy the less expensive version Oceanic Delta 4 Non-Swivel FDX10 Non-DVT Regulator but that's just me!

As to the octo: it needs to be just as capable. I might try another Delta 4 second stage.

My other choice would be the ScubaPro Mk17/G250V.

FWIW, I don't own either of these regulators. The only high end regulator I have purchased is the Dive Rite Hurricane and I bought that because Dive Rite sells the parts kits to end users and also releases the maintenance manual on their web site. Not that I plan to work on regulators but I like to encourage these practices.

I can't believe this thread as gone to 3 pages before anybody has mentioned Dive Rite or Hollis. Many divers up this way and north use the Dive Rite. I love mine...have 2 sets.

I upgraded to them this year after using the Sherwood Magnum which I also loved.

Another vote for aqualung regs. Just make sure it has the "supreme" feature which makes it environmentally sealed. I have dove titan lx supremes and legend lx supremes in cold water without issue. I used to dive scubapro mk25s600 but had a cold water freeflow that turned me off to them.

Just picked up the glacia which is specifically designed for cold water and will try it soon.

Another plus to al is you can get them serviced almost anywhere.

Another vote for Mares. The Mares Abyss and Proton Metal regs are both excellent cold water regs and there aren't any knobs or levers to fiddle with at different depths. They are both very easy breathing regs.

The regular legend also has an environmental dry chamber. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only difference between the supreme and the regular legend is a lower ip, silver ring "instead of gold" and lip shield.

You are right.

The Titan needs to be supreme or you can add the environmental seal kit after market. Costs a lot more to do it after market, just buy it as a supreme.

Legends come dry so the supreme option is not critical.

Both titans and legends are great regs, the legend breathes easier and costs more.

I love my Dive Rite Hurricane regs, I've had them in 39f water with no problems.
And rescue15 you can change the settings under userCP to show up to 50 post per page.

love my XTX200 by Apeks

Love my Poseidon Xstreams too, but that's breaking the bank. Love my Phoenix Royal Aqua master, but thats a whole different ball of wax. Now for the average guy on the street, a US Divers "Supreme" or a Sherwood Blizzard will fit the bill just fine.
I did my first ice diving with a Dacor Viper. It was a good reg until the LDS got a hold of it. That's why I service all my own stuff now. I haven't had a reg issue since i did the homework and did it myself.

This ones for my former LDS :mooner:

Not really breaking the bank as every now and then they have an exchange prgram I gave them any old reg in any condition and the gave me the XTX for half the price, worked out about 500.00 Canadian.

I hear you about the LDS and servicing same happened to me as the pinched an O ring when putting it back together first time I opened the valve had a air leak when I took it apart myself it was obvious what they had done.
