Actually, we tried going to Coconuts yesterday, and the Mexican police wouldnt let us go down the road that far. But we did drop off a new t-shirt at Mescalitos.

Why wouldn't the police let you go down the road? Is the east side closed??? I'm headed to Coz in 2 weeks and I was REALLY looking forward to the east side for some white sand and a cold one.....

He didnt speak english, just enough to tell us to turn around. I have heard part of the road is still washed out, maybe thats the deal. I dont know the reasons, but I do know we wasnt allowed to go there.

There are two ways to get there. Perhaps the other way was open?

It is definitely open, it's not that you weren't allowed to go there...you just needed to be coming from the other way. You have to come from the north side and use the cross island road towards San Gervasio ruins and Mescalitos to get there. This is the shorter way anyway. The road is still closed at Playa Bonita due to hurricane damage which is south of Coconuts...that is why you couldn't get there.

Thats the way we came from. We was at Mescalitos, and decided to head down to coconuts, and thats when we was turned back.

The Mexican Navy must have found some illicit substances washed up on the beach :)

That's not necessarily a joke. If there are turtles ashore that can happen, too, but mostly that's in the spring.
