**Hijack - It was nice getting to spend some time talking at the show. I feel much better without all that pesky nitrogen. - End Hijack**

I am not advocating posting pictures of naked women.

If a picture of a woman in a bikini is inappropriate then what is appropriate?
  • Shirt and shorts? (no, reveals leg)
  • Shirt and pants? (no, pants are not appropriate attire for women)
  • Blouse and skirt? (no, leg again)
  • Dress? (no, leg again)
  • Business suit? (no, still legs)
  • Pants suit? (no, no pants)
I've got it, Burkas! That's it. Problem solved. From now on any woman in a picture posted on the board must be wearing a full burka.

I like the way you think! :coffee:

On topic, I really see no reason why it couldn't be an opt in area. If anyone could be offended by seeing the leg of a man or woman clad in beach wear, skimpy as it may be, they I would suggest that person not visit the area under discussion. Why is so black and white to me?? I am not seeing any problem at all.

How about I impersonally bash your head for this...

:D

I like the office-friendly standard, but disagreement is fine. Silliness can sidetrack. ;)

SB is here for the diving community as a WHOLE! This includes me, Missdirected, JeffG, and even you Dandydon. We all have different personalities, beliefs, needs/wants, and thresholds. The whole point of this thread and the sole reason for me posting is to simply state that right now, SB does not reflect the diving community in the manner in which is should. It should not cater to one groups beliefs/opinions no matter what side you are on. If you want to get into specific incidents, I don't have to look but to this very thread.

1) I have been told to go start up my own board.
2) It has been said this thread is stupid.
3) I have been accused of trolling.

My opinion (not SB's)

SB is not here for the whole diving community. It is here for the part of the diving community that can express itself without attacking others or posting content that makes the general public or conservative employers uncomfortable.

SB is private property and is owned by someone who has decided that his part of the internet landscape will be clean and friendly, as is his choice. And I believe it is a good choice.

I've been involved with the internet since it consisted of a handful of machines with less computing power and a slower network connection than your cell phone and have seen every sort of communication/collaboration technology from the original UUCP over dialup, "PARTI" on "The Source", SMTP email, fidonet echomail and IM to the current crop of web-based message boards.

Without exception, every single time anonymous users have been given free reign, it's turned into ****. (the asterisks are mine. feel free to insert the disgusting 4 letter word of your choice).

SB is successful precisely because it is a relatively safe, friendly place where old and new divers can stop by without fear of being ground into the dirt, and FWIW, I like it that way. However in the end, it's private property and what you or I want is irrelevant. The only desires that matter belong to the guy who pays the hosting bill.

Just so I understand, can I post while I am naked or wearning no panties, is that a violation? Or can I do that and just not post pictures or talk about it?

You can post while completely naked. That's fine. If posting pictures of yourself while in that condition, you better send them to me first. I'm the Q/C Administrator. I just wanna make sure you're representing your best side and all. :D

As stated previously, the TOS states Workplace Friendly, not Office Friendly. There is a difference.

As the discussion was about censorship my post was not a sidetrack, but a satirical look at the topic of discussion. Satire is often used to illistrate points of view.

The fundamental problem with a user community this large is that pretty much anything you post except for the most inane nonsense has a very good chance of offending at least a few folks in that community. Bound to be differences in the interpretation of "workplace friendly" between not only the users but even within the mods. Not an easy balancing act to figure out if having one or a few users offended is worth keeping the post for the others that want to see it. I think that the mods do a good job most of the time and appreciate it.

I did have one post deleted a couple of weeks ago that really ticked me off, It was sarcastic but also 100% true and in my opinion in no way violated TOS. When I griped about it being deleted and wanted a chance to defend it the response I got was that if I just let it go nothing would be done but if I wanted to push it I'd risk being put on a "Watch list" or get a vacation from the board. Still not sure if the remark was sarcastic or the person really meant it but I came away feeling like the Mod was using blackmail to keep their decision from being challenged. I lost a lot of respect for both the mod and the board admins for allowing that one to go by.
