Just came back from Catalina diving trip.
Scuba Luv rents doubles! :) (FYI they do not rent BP/W)

...so this brings up the next question....what kind of gas will they put in them?

All the best, James

ok ok. last weekend i went there with bunch of non diving friends on a way to san diego (i'll tell about la jolla later).
We took catalina express from long beach @ 10am, back on 3.45 pm, so really only enough to do one nice dive.
I had my drysuit, w/BP, etc. stopped by scuba luv.
Rented myself a steel 95 faber, and snorkle gear for the rest of a crew.
(note fills there are somewhat short ~ 2300psi :(
Thats when i noted 3 sets of LP80 doubles in the corner. I was told that they filled with air, but they bank NX32 so wont be a big deal to give them heads up and do proper fill. Cost same as 2 tanks rental. They do not have plates or wings :( so bring your own.

I had extra 13cf bottle with me so instead of getting insta-buddy i went solo, after talking to a DIR divemaster and getting directions @ casino point.

simple entry, warm(er) water. only 100g undies in my drysuit.
Bottom drops fast to about 50ft nice kelp (different from monterey), many fishes.
about 30ft+ viz., sunny no need for my light.
bunch of pipes and chains and other "home made reef" material makes a nice lively habitat.
over all very nice and i would repeat it with some DIR folks and make it a dive specific trip.
rent NX32 doubles go bit deeper.

next time i will fly to san diego,
bring everything but weights and tanks.
catch ferry from dana point to catalina., stay in san diego and do wreck alley too.

...so this brings up the next question....what kind of gas will they put in them?

Why, nothing but good clean Catalina air, free from much of the pollution found in mainland locations!

Seriously, Scuba Luv is the only provider of Nitrox or other mixed gases on the island.
