Does anyone know what kind of conditions to expect out in Catalina tomorrow? I was planning on heading out there tomorrow afternoon with a night and early morning dive.
Thanks, Ed

Leaving tomorrow on the 10:00 AM from LB. We'll be staying the night and coming back Thursday. It stinks the fill station at the point isn't open during the week in Winters... so we're schlepping it back into town 'tween the dives.

I should be bringing my doubles to make half the trips, but the people I'm diving with will all be in single rigs.

Very often, when it rains in LA, it doersn't rain at all in Avalon. We'll see. It will be overcast and windly, likely. But the entry is easy (stairs) and the conditions change very little in the rain.

Its gonna be fun tomorrow and Thursday. Hope I can get the crew I'm with in for a night dive tomorrow night.

See you there, I hope.

Surface conditions are gonna be pretty sloppy due to this NW system that's moving through. There's a chance of some rain, but the bigger issue is the winds being forecasted ... ~20-27+mph with gale force gusts possible. That's enough to put a healthy bump on it.

Good luck.

I've been to Catalina two weekends in a row, the dive park Dec 16 and the Isthmus Dec 23. Both weekends there were dire predictions about weather, wind, swells, rain etc. and I can tell you both weekends were some of the best conditions I've seen at the Island. Have fun!

Yikes, thanks for the warning... I'm planning to stay home and edit video.

Conditions today were reported to be fairly good: 30-35' vis but a bit green, fairly calm surface conditions. Hard to tell how much impact it will have for us at the Avalon end of the island. NW winds can push past the West End and come down the leeward coast, but the swells may be deflected by Long Point.

Looks pretty nasty from here. I seen nothing but white caps from the upstairs windows since this morning. So where you folks able to get over before Catalina Express canceled for the day ?

I waited and waited down at the dive park for you guys (and gals) to show, but no one did. Why not? Just because all the boats and helicopters today are cancelled shouldn't stop you.

There actually was one diver (a local, but not me) in the water. He said vis was still "decent" but getting in and out on the stairs sucked. I was down there for an hour filming the only other divers (cormorants) and the waves breaking on the stairs.

This had better settle down by tomorrow... I still have three dives to do to notch 300 for the year.

They kept cancelling until about 5:30 PM, and I bagged it. I was able to move my Wed / Thurs plans to Thurs / Friday plans.

Hopefully I'll get over tomorrow on the 10:00 AM boat and be in the water by noon.

OY!!!!!!!

It's still pretty windy here by the water, but it supposed to start backing down sharply after 3AM ... hopefully cleans up by tomorrow afternoon. Friday/Sat are looking pretty sweet. Good luck on getting #300 Dr Bill !

I'M SO SAD!!!!!!!

Went out to see DreamGirls tonight (very disappointing, BTW), had a nice dinner afterwards and came home to work out. At 8:30 - Clear skies, still, quiet, wonderful.

Right now its 11:01 PM (real time, not SB time) and the wind is howling, stuff flying all over the place, neighbors fence crashing in, Christmas inflatables soaring across the streets, palm fronds falling from the sky, etc.

This sux. I don't want to roll over to Avalon after 12:00 noon, dangitall.

Fingers and toes crossed - we get out tomorrow AM.

This is limp.
