My girlfriend and I are doing a day trip to dive at Casino Point on Friday. We're both planning on bringing our camera gear (and we're both pretty vigilant about dunking our regs soon after diving). After a cursory search on the board, I couldn't find many options for dunking gear around Casino Point. Are we stuck with borrowing someone's cooler and filling it with water or are there any large buckets/tanks within walking distance? We're going to be paying for Catalina Baggage to schlep our gear back and forth from the ferry. So the idea of walking it almost half way back to the public showers isn't appealing.

Any help?

Fresh water is very precious here since we are dependent on entrapped rain water for our supply. You can take your gear into the pay showers on the way back into town. I think they cost $3 to use. Oops, I just read that you don't want to walk back that far. Not many options then other than using in the sink in the Casino restrooms.

Your reg ain't gonna up and die if you don't rinse it off right away. Taking care of gears is one thing, getting carried away and worry over nothing is another.

Enjoy your dive, pack up your gears, get back to mainland and wash your gear until your heart contends.

...a pour of drinking water in the mouth and exhaust ports ASAP after you exit is good. You do want to avoid the drying of salt inside a Reg as it is a kin to sharp glass shards. You won't have any sand issues at the Dive Park (Soon to be a Preserve ;~) I usually walk around and pour water in my buddies regs between dives jus to jerk their chain!

NO WORRIES Mon, take that gal diving and HAVE FUN! Clean it when ya get home.

Thanks, Dr. Bill. That's what I figured. I hope that's repurposed water they're using on that golf course there.

fnfalman, yeah, I generally wait until getting home to soak my regs. I was asking mainly for dunking cameras. Granted, I'm still a newb, but everything I've read (and observed from other photographers) is that you should at least rinse your camera gear after each use. I'm not willing to chance anything with this stuff, it's just too expensive. I'd rather be extra cautious... better safe than sorry. If I'm going to have access to dunk the camera stuff, I may as well dunk my reg at the end of the day, rather than allowing it to dry up and stay that way for hours.

Thanks Don!

There is usually a "trash can" full of relatively clean water to dunk your gear next to the fill station (at least every time I've been).

I transport my Canon point-and-shoot housing in a plastic mask case. At the end of the day, I fill up the mask case with fresh water from the bathroom sink and then work the buttons. If you feel like it, you could swish your regs around in there afterward. For a dive weekend at Catalina, I will only rinse my regs when I get home. Have fun on your trip and don't sweat the rinsing. :D

A bunch of my San Diego dive buddies are headed to Casino Point for diving on Fri-Sun. Unfortunately, I won't be joining them. :depressed:

For my video camera gear, I just buy a couple of gallons of water at the little store on the fuel dock. Rinse the cameras and whatever I have left, I pour on my regs. Easy Peasy.

It supposedly is.

That is there for the CDS gear, not public use
