I'm considering a position in Cape Romain, SC (north of Charleston) for the summer of 2011. My spouse and I would be living in the area from May - Oct. What kind of diving is available in the area? How far will our typical drive to a dive site be?

We enjoy ocean diving, shore diving, lake diving, etc. We are both experienced divers, he is an instructor.

Thanks for your help!

OOps, just saw that another guy recently asked about diving in the Charleston area. http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/deep-dixie-divers/341643-diving-south-carolina.html

I'd be volunteering at Cape Romain so we have a limited budget. $150 for charters is pretty much out of our league. Is there any less expensive diving available in the area? If we have kayaks or a zodiac is the diving close enough to take our own craft?
