Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced all Canadian travellers returning from overseas will have to take a COVID-19 test at the airport when they land and quarantine in a designated hotel for three days at their own expense while they await results.

He says that’s expected to cost more than $2000.

I didn't realize Canadian hotels were so expensive... $2000 for three days?

For that kind of money, y'all could just stay in Cozumel for a couple months instead.

Yle,

These are properly ''Pandemic prepped'' designated hotels, not your run of the mill ''walk-ins''

For the time being, all major Canadian cities, with International airports are going to have them, some cities, at least one, some more than one, hotels will have ambulances, emergency isolation preparedness, and any other Pandemic needs as may be necessary.

I hope this answers your question.

Rose.

I see one person infecting the whole hotel coming soon.

Anyone know when the COVID testing at Pearson airport for returning citizens and the 3 day gov quarantine will go into affect? With a bonus cost of $2500.

At that price you are pretty much better off staying away if one can.

Well, yes. The volcano and chickens story is about people making decisions without any data other than anecdotal observations with a very small sample size and with very limited understanding of how the universe works.

Which is how many are making COVID restrictions. Take LA County where they decided "Fine you can have outdoor dining, but no TVs," and Quebec which has a curfew they admit has no evidence that it works.

Based on my experience with government decisions, they won't be as prepped as you think they are. At best they will have a small handbook of instructions. But no one has really read it and figured it all out. At worst they get a couple of pages of recommendations like "Wear a mask and keep contact brief." If there is one thing universal in this world it is the incompetence of governments.

Our governments are not making the decisions on this. They are following the advice of doctors & scientists who are specialists in infectious diseases. The governments are the final word but admit they are not the experts.

The only people allowed to leave are those doing grocery delivery and they must get tested every few days to insure they don't spread it, which is the only way to get groceries.

Totally not practical to do, as long as people are shopping there is a path for this and other diseases to spread. So we just have to be smart which for a lot people is also not possible.
Contactless pick up only with testing for store staff is not very different from your delivery only scheme, and very feasible. Assuming 'out shopping' means picking up in one's own car. Not that that covers those who must take a bus etc to reach the grocery store, or the store is not on the web. But 'wear an effective **** mask' goes a long way.

I didn’t see any Canadian guests in my latest trip to Socorro on the Canadian owned liveaboard, Nautilus Belle Amie, Socorro Jan 2021 Diving Trip Report. The guests were mostly Americans, a few of South Americans, and Europeans. They were only 20 out of 35 spots occupied.

If US government imposes the same kind of travel restrictions, these liveaboards & resorts in Mexico would be in a deep doo-doo.

There are government's can make the mentioned procedures work. S Korea and Taiwan come to mind. The problem in the US as an example is the federalist approach; and that is not even taking the nutcases into account that think wearing a mask restricts their freedom.

It seems to me that being on a liveaboard would be just about the worst case possible scenario for spreading the virus on a micro scale.

Requiring that someone wear a mask does indeed restrict their freedom, the same as not being able to drive 90 mph on residential city streets, not being allowed to carry a loaded bazooka on an airliner, and the proverbial not being allowed to cry "FIRE!" in a crowded theatre (unless, of course, there really IS a fire, in which case, please do).
