Dangerous territory I know but can someone settle an arguement between me & my wife about the PADI open water qualification.

She claims that you must make at least 1 dive within 12 months of passing your open water qualification otherwise you lose it. I say that once you have it you have it for life irrsepective of further diving. Who is right ???

Cheers...JF

I have never heard anything like this but I'm sure that a PADI instructor will know for certain. As far as I know the only agency that you can lose your certification levels from is GUE.

My OW cert was with PADI and it was/is good for life. PADI has a new cert level called Scuba Diver which is not a full OW cert as I understand it. This new cert may have a time limit on it like NAUI's Passport Diver.

I guess you need to make sure you are both talking about the same thing.

Its definately PADI open water - so its looking like I'm right

Now you just have to decide if being right is the best politic! :eyebrow:

My buddy is always telling me, do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy?......

You don't lose the cert, but you may lose the skills. Most people need more practice after OW to really get things nailed down to begin with. If you don't practice those new skills for a year it's really likely you won't be on top of things.

So one could argue that's she's sort of right... :)
