Well put Kim! Get over it people...they aren't talking about doing beer bongs before the dive or trying to shotgun a beer can at depth. They also never said that this was forced upon them. They are talking about having a beer after the diving is done, building comraderie and celebrating a milestone in their diving. I say congrats and cheers:cheers:
I live in the US, most of my buddies are from the US, and guess what....we sometimes like to have a beer after a dive too. In fact after diving today, we stopped off for something to eat and I had a couple. BIG DEAL!!! I was done diving for the day, and besides, nothing goes with a plate of Fish & Chips in a British Pub like a pint of Newcastle.
To each his own.

these c-card traditions are usually done after getting certified usually on a sunday so no diving the next day. this is usually done after the last dives of the weekend so no diving after:)
or their done weeks or months after your checkouts in a bar in the city... that's when the plastic ones come in from PADI...

it's nowhere near water, it's nowhere near a divesite, it's nowhere near tanks or gear or even a darned puddle of pee...

you guys better chill out... it's not like local instructors go around chugging beers at 60 feet and bring their noob OW graduates there with them... sheesh

bravo! well said!

i was beginning to think that in the US passing the IE meant entering a fundamentalist religion... in addition to letting go of one's humor or humanity

exactly my sentiments, they make it sound like we were forced to drink at gunpoint or that these instructors are encouraging drinking. on the contrary i am a proponent of no alcohol before dives but no one ever said we couldnt enjoy some party games when receiving these c cards. doing so wouldnt be irresponsible, just means we know how to have a good time.

and as jag put it, we are nowhere near water!! diba jag? ano say mo?

umm, guys, I hate to say it but we're reaching a point of redundancy point here. How about we all shut up, stick to the thread topic and chill by the beach? (Whether you want a beer or chocolate milk, it's my treat! :) )

PS did you get my joke with the "point of redundancy point"???? nevermind.
