MIne, the certificate of completion came first, after 3 weeks I think, the card came from the states.

I did witness several alcohol-related c-card rituals during my travels in SE Asia, Australia and the South Pacific a few years ago. I questioned the linkage of diving with alcohol, just as Walter, Mike and others do in this thread. Personally, I think it is a very bad idea.

I generally do not drink alcohol the night before a dive day. In my youth I did, even heavily on a few occasions. At my age I prefer to do everything I can to ensure that my mind and body are functioning as close to 100% as possible when I'm diving. And I have nothing agaimst drinking- I like my red wine, my sake, my ouzo and occasionally Scotch! Just not too close to when I dive.

Since this thread is in a regional forum, there are cultural issues here. I will try not to be critical, just say what I would do.

Who is this Laurel girl everybody is talking about? :D

these c-card traditions are usually done after getting certified usually on a sunday so no diving the next day. this is usually done after the last dives of the weekend so no diving after:)

How about.....good job what's next. Something about drinking and diving that makes no sense....we are taught as divers to hydrate our bodies not dehydrate them. Lead by example....dive responsibly. Set the new divers on the right track.

Peace

Gee guys! Spoon & Chip have already said that this isn't about drinking BEFORE diving. As DrBill also said.......this is a club forum - surely you don't expect everyone on the planet to conform to American values do you? Sheesh.......

Well put Kim! Get over it people...they aren't talking about doing beer bongs before the dive or trying to shotgun a beer can at depth. They also never said that this was forced upon them. They are talking about having a beer after the diving is done, building comraderie and celebrating a milestone in their diving. I say congrats and cheers:cheers:
I live in the US, most of my buddies are from the US, and guess what....we sometimes like to have a beer after a dive too. In fact after diving today, we stopped off for something to eat and I had a couple. BIG DEAL!!! I was done diving for the day, and besides, nothing goes with a plate of Fish & Chips in a British Pub like a pint of Newcastle.
To each his own.
