Recently dropped a lot of money on a two complete sets of Mk 25's and S600's. Got one set from DiveInn.com and the other from a local dive shop in Monterey. No difference in performance. However the mailorder one cost about $300 less. The LDS version has the warranty though.

I bought ScubaPro because all the divers I know that travel throughout Southeast Asia tell me that I can easily find a Scubapro dealer for service. I travel a lot and plan to dive in the Philippines and Thailand as often as possible.

Now that I know a little more about the industry I am beginning to resent SP's policy about trying to restrict Mailorder and "price fixing" LDS's so they can't offer more than a 10% discount. It seems really unfair that rather than helping the LDS by allowing them to decide on their own how low they can go to compete with mail order they tie their hands. Then the only tool they use to "help" the LDS is to send out a bunch of signs to the shops warning consumers about the lack or warranty support.

I'd gladly pay 15-20% more at a LDS but not the 80-100% more than many of them are FORCED to charge by some of the manufacturers.

Anni: Scubapro stopped making that model for some reason. It is still a great reg though. What 2nd stage are you using?

Thanks ElectricZombie :)

My 2nd stages are 'Performance' brand I doubt if anyone's ever heard of it, it's Italian made I think. They're cheap. I bought them because I needed gear, but I really had no idea what 2nd stages to buy so didn't want to spend a lot of money on an uninformed choice. When I get home to Ireland I will replace them with better regs; I bought the MK18 because it's envir sealed . . .the water gets cold at home.

Next time I definitely want 2nd stages that are not hard breathing when you're upside or look up . . .are most 2nd stages like that or just crap ones like mine?

the mk17 is a really good first stage, in my opinion better then the mk25 which costs more and doesnt really give added performance.

Scubapro has the MK18 in their 2006 catalog. Their still making it.

It's a 4 year old thread, so I am assuming the originator of the thread has long since bought a reg.

But..the Mk 18 was never been widely marketed in the US.

Scubapro made good regulators in general, some are excellent.

Although there are models which has recall history before (crack), like the MK20, but I think it's fixed: http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=97804
Some minor issue related to UL version only, but it's only minor issue:

Mk10:

A lot of high end regulators have issues before e.g ATX200 front cover. As long as the manufacturers are willing to put effort on the quality control, I think it's should be ok.
On the other hand, I think it would be good if we can stay tune with the feedback with other users and keep the info available, some accidents can be avoided.

I am glad that for those who introduced me to the page about equipment recall, yes, play safe, and life is precious:
