Hello y'all,

I've got a dumb question (2 out of 2...)

When I bought my BCD, I tried it out in the store...
Looked at the size, adjusted the straps, filled it with air to see how much it squeezed me...
It wasn't a 'real' & 'wet' trial (that's next week), but it gave me a few precious indication (one of which was to buy an L, rather then an XL)...

Today, I am going to pick up my reg. (1st and 2nd stages).
A Scubapro MK17 first stage (I am planning to take up ice diving next year) with an S600 second with mini gage...

Should I try something out in the store ?
Should ask for it to be connected to a botlle to see if the gage works, if the reg works ?
Should ask to breath out of it in the store ?

I tried my mask, finns, bcd, wet suit in the store...

What about my reg ?

thanks in advance

If you're buying it from the store I see no reason not to connect it to a tank and check it out any way you want.

Your dealer will assemble, adjust, and test your new regulator. In most cases, when a customer picks a new regulator up after assembly, the store will put it on a cylinder and walk you through any adjustment features (for diver adjustable regulators), will show you how to shut down, coil, and store the regulator. If they don't offer these things, it is perfectly ok to ask for them. Thanks.

I think the reg will be fine... taking up ice diving... I don't know. How many years have you been diving?

I live right next to lake forzen 4 month a year.
So it's not an 'either/or' situation...

Loads (all) of local dive center organise under ice trainings and outings...
I'll obviously will be properly trained by then.

*whew* Glad to hear that! Be safe man. That ice diving is nothing to fool with! Sounds like you picked a great regulator though!

It's always a good idea for a shop to bench test a regulator before it goes out the door. Seats take a set after the reg is assembled and even though it is likely that the reg will be shipped from Scubapro directly as you are ordering a non standard combination, it still may have sat in a warehouse for a few months.

It will have a manufacture date on the box and in all cases it is a good idea to insist that it be tested and adjusted before you take it home if the reg is more than 2-3 months old.

More importantly, since you are getting a first and second stage that will be boxed and shipped separately, the shop NEEDS to tune the second stage to the first stage to ensure optimum performance.

Congrats on your first reg purchase, it sounds like you picked out a good one. I hope you enjoy your ice diver training next year, I did my first ice dives this year, after over a decade of wanting to, I finally got around to it. It was a blast, where abouts are you located?

Woaw.
Tried it in the store...
Like if someone had blown a fan in my mouth...
This thing breathes like a hurricane...

Jimmer,

In the canadian province of quebec (I am an ex-pat), at the end of the memphre-magog lake, newport-usa is right on the other side...
I wonder...if I go too far from the dive plan during a dive, do I need a passport...
;-)
