the video gives you a good idea (except as to the proper use of a torque wrench).

At least he had a torque wrench and used it. Somre professional shops don't even have one. I didn't like the idea of sticking the end of an allen wrench in an LP port to hold the turret while he torqued the turret nut. I use an old LP hose. And hand tight is not enough on the ambient chamber to body connection. I really doubt he could get 24 ft-lb torque on the yoke nut (on that scubapro Mk5) without using a vise. A fast job but covered all the basic steps of assembly. Who needs a saddle anyway?

I just saw a G250, an older one, sell on ebay for $162.50. That's 2nd stage only. Maybe buying used SP regs isn't such a good deal after all? OTOH, I think a MK10/D300 went for around $80, so go figure.

Just to throw in my opinion...

Depending on your circumstances.. you could dive using every SP 1st / 2nd stage... someone I know dives his MK2/R190 up to 130 feet in cold water and told me he never had issues... however breathing will be a bit more 'labored'.

The MK17 is a very good performing cold water 1st stage... much beter then MK25 when talking cold water. You are of course compairing apples with oranges (diaghram vs piston, seales vs nonsealed)... but for cold water it is a very good 1st stage (and cheaper then the MK25).

2nd stage.. the X650 is SP's top of the bill 2nd stage.. I've heared mixed opinions about them.. from being very satisfied to someone who's replacing all his X650's for G250V's... (LSD). Talking about G250V.. that's a potential good candidate too... it's basicaly and old SP model that is now re-entering the market. Apparently excellent cold water performance and a good breather... and it should be cheaper than the X650.

I'm not a techie ... you should ask guys like DA AQUAMASTER about the ins and outs... but I'm currently diving a MK17/G250V combo and it's performing very well (breathing with 2 guys from it at 130 feet without any performance issues). Performance in cold... well I'll see this winter :D

Damn... now I am promoting my own gear ...

One thing to consider: the canadian LDS' probably have inventory purchased when the canadian dollar was worth less than the US dollar. Between then and now prices have gone down at their supplier level since the canadian dollar is at par or even higher than the US$.

They are interested in moving their expensive stuff before someone starts reducing their sales prices.

I have already been told that Scubapro products are on special.

Wait and let things cook a bit.

My 2 cents (canadian)

Actually I got a deal on a used set of Aqua lung Legend ACD LX . There are still in the mail I might give them to my girlfriend
As for my Scubapro's still looking for a X650 and a Mk17 or mk25 . Im now also considering S600 and G250 if the deal is good.

One thing is sure I will give my Canadian Money to the States. Canadian Dive shops are just not in the price. 99% sale there gear twice the price then a US retailer. I rather get F#%@ by a American then a Canadian. Specially if she a California Girl :p
I Know , Im a American *****
