The article references the dive to be a 14 hour dive. Obviously one would be on a rebreather, but at that length of time, you can't possibly bring enough gas to recover from a rb failure, can you? If not, do they stage bottles all the way back?

You can stage enough gas. It’s been done many times and for much longer dives.

But it’s my understanding that the team was using bailout rebreathers.

Wet Mule started using dual CCR to get around BO limitations. Not sure if the KUR had adopted that yet.

Not that it sounds like BO was an issue, as he just disappeared.

Andy Pitkin and the team there are one of the teams pioneering the use of dual machines. Can't do these dives without it in any practical manner.

We finished recovering Brett from the cave this evening. Thank you to everyone who has contributed in any way. When we have got all the information and analyzed it, we will issue a statement about the incident that will answer everyone's questions. Until then, please allow us some time to come to terms with his loss, as up until now we have been focused on the recovery. Thank you. Andy Pitkin
