Sad...
It is a well known party place.. For many years SB hosted a megadive twice a year at Turkey Roost. Over the years, more and more rules were put into place. Eventually they got so large group diver unfriendly that it was decided no more. Then covid hit...
Have been back a couple times, once as a non diver, and this past Labor Day to do some diving and hang with non divers. It was a zoo at the main spring. And Vis down the run from Little Devil to the river could be measured in inches...

Apparently the park is closed too, on their big money weekend. Really nuts.

Current murder investigation.. that sucks for them..

We drove by on the way to Manatee this morning, and looked wild - nobody lined up to enter, a literal traffic jam of cars all exiting (at 10am on a holiday weekend), and ambulance with sirens and lights blaring came tearing out the entrance. We passed more fire and ambulances headed that way. Crazy pants.

(For folks who didn’t read the article: Ginnie is currently closed due to an ongoing attempted murder investigation - shooting last night. Local rumors also claim there was a separate second shooting on Friday night).

So I went to the GSO FB to check if they are open yet (as I am planning to dive Wednesday) and the comments on the closed announcement got spicy. 1,600 comments before they limited the comments. Lots of people claiming that they knew what was going on. Though a majority of lamenting what GSO has become since the pandemic.

Ginnie is now open for daily admissions, with things back to normal tomorrow. They wisely limited the comments from the get go.

More details on the shootings, they have two suspects in custody from Southeast GA for the Friday night murder. FDLE, who is leading the investigation due to GCSO's resources being tied up for the Friday night murder, is still developing their suspects for the Saturday night attempted murder.

GCSO has announced that they will have a greatly enhanced presence Independence Day.
Schultz said that his agency and Gilchrist County Fire Rescue responded to 89 calls for service in the park and conducted 98 traffic stops between May 23 and May 27 this year. He said the agency is planning to have an increased presence at the campground for the Independence Day weekend: “I don’t want it to appear to be an armed occupation on the northeast side of Gilchrist County, but I’m not going to say that that’s been ruled out as an option. There will be a heavy presence of Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office, as well as other agencies that will be doing everything we can to prevent this type of activity from happening again.”

20,000-30,000 people at the campground!!! That’s absolutely insane!!!

Incredibly sad to see the direction the owners have taken.
