Yes Soggy is right.

The wings fold up much smaller and dry faster
than a traditional BC.

I called my LDS this morning and told him
what has been said on this board.
He said that I was probably talking to a bunch
of people who don't dive a lot.

For the record, he still stands by his statements.

"The ocean is not a place for a single tank wing.
Single tank wings are good for the springs and rivers"
word for word.

He uses a traditional BC for singles and
a bp/wing setup for doubles.

My LDS says you will get very bad chafe marks and soreness
using such a setup in the ocean. I was also told
this setup is not as stable in the ocean (I guess he
is comparing it to doubles)

Nonsense. I dive only a BP/Wing setup...95% of the time using doubles. I have not experienced any chafeing or soreness.

A BP/Wing setup is actually much more stable than the other types of BCs out there.

Your LDS simply doesn't know any better or is trying to persuade you into buying whatever gear they sell.

Your LDS tank monkey is uninformed. Many of the people here dive *a lot*. I'm at the very low end of the spectrum and have put in over 50 dives so far this year. Likely people here dive a lot more than the people at your LDS.

Soggy -- to give the guy the benefit of doubt, maybe he is just
an "old school" diver. I dont know. If he is just trying
to steer me into buying his gear, that is just poor salemanship
and in the long term it will be his shop that will suffer....

Wendy -- when I get to my first scubaboard party,
I'll give you info you want

As for me, I only have about 30 freshwater dives (all springs)
logged in my life ....so the newbie label still
fits

BP/wings *is* old-school.

He is probably right...I mean there are a lot of people out there who do NOT dive at all...let alone a lot....

But seriously, I'd consider going to a new shop...they obviously don't get it....it shouldn;t come down to them trying to push something on you so much as it is them finding out what your wants/desires are and then helping you make an informed decision....

What freekin difference does it make if I'm diving spring, rivers, or oceans....other than the salt and waves, and the greater likelihood of having to call a dive....there is almost zero difference

No, BP with NO wing is really Old-school
BP With hourse collar came next
Then BP + wings

Of course the BP's were even smaller back then...

yeah i think ya'll are right and I will
be giving someone else my business for
my bc. Thank goodness I purchased
my regulator from another store.
He might have told me that you need
a saltwater regulator and a freshwater one....hehe

I definitely dive more than I post here, and all of my dives are in the ocean with a backplate and wings and a single tank, so I kind of have to believe that they work in the ocean with a single tank quite well:confused: Never been in a spring or a river with them, but I am sure they work just fine there too:)

Does the LDS even sell BP's my guess is not so they push the jacket as they don't want you going to another store or even worse buying over the net.
