I use the XS Suba shorts when diving wet, unless it's a sidemount dive. The crotch strap ensures that they won't fall down. I don't use a weight belt.

I use a dive rite mesh pocket that clips on to the bottom of the plate and sits on my butt outside of the crotch strap. It's pretty handy, but I kind of agree with Nemrod in that you should try to really eliminate carrying anything you don't need. I do use that pouch for an extra mask in cave/cavern diving.

I dive a balanced rig, so I have room for one generic pouch on my waist belt. And I also have thigh pockets on my wetsuits.

What does a balanced rig have to do with weight pouches? My understanding is that it relates to being able to swim up your rig without air in the BC. Your ditch-able weight can be either on a belt or on the rig itself.

I have seen the shorts, but dont know if I like them much.

Anyone run a BP with a weight belt? Maybe then I could replace the weight pouches with pockets?

As mentioned many people use a weight belt or harness. What has not been mentioned is gluing pockets on to your wetsuit which seems to be popular also. Jim Lapenta has a post on how to do it.

Halo, which one are you using for this?

I don't really want to use my Xpants pockets for the extra mask when I do the solo course but I was stumped for another idea. This sounds like a good outta the way solution.

Send me a link dude!

You could try this: Highland by XS Scuba Mesh Carry Pouch at LeisurePro

Just make sure you do not sit on the mask if it is hanging below your backplate. Reels and lift bags are more forgiving being sat on.

If you carry a can light some of the old time cave divers would just wrap the backup mask on the can light. The belt and the cord would keep it from falling off and getting lost.

I have pockets on both of my suits, but on the rare instance I know I won't be using one of my own suits, I use one of these:

When I took my cave course, my instructor said it was a good idea for one person on the team to carry a spare mask, but in all of my cave dives since with other people, the general consensus is you have a buddy if your mask disappears, so it's best to leave unnecessary stuff in your gear bag.

I'm an instructor and tend to carry stuff for those "just in case" moments, but really the best solution I've found is pockets on the suit. Both my Hollis semi-dry and USIA dry came with thigh pockets. We carry a couple of glue on pockets, but I don't have any personal experience with either:

I use a weight belt under my harness/webbing. I then have one of the new Halcyon pockets on my right hip to hook my long hose behind, it works pretty good as a replacement for a can light. Not sure if it would hold all you wanted it to as I wouldn't be able to fit a spare mask in mine, but that is probably because my bag is a bit oversized and doesn't roll up nice and tight.
