Hi yall, so I would like to place boltsnaps on both second stages for securing sake. However, the shroud prevents me from placing one at the metal so its a lil bit far, is there a better way to do it than I have already done in the picture? I mean still gotta be able to remove the shroud for washing etc..

That is a VERY bad type of "boltsnap" to use on your second stage or any dive equipment!!!

Oh because I'm using one of those Scubapro Octo holders... its a pain to get it back into the holder underwater after using it for SMB inflation. I am going to put a necklace on the primary so it hangs at my neck if it gets kicked out, so i may ditch the boltsnap
or you don't use your octo to inflate the smb...take the smb and put it near your primary where the bubble come out (sorry don't know the term in english).

Be safe

For an OW rec setup, I would just use one of those magnetic octo holders for your secondary, can put your primary on a necklace or leave the bolt snap for securing when not in use. The clip you currently have on your octo is prone to entanglement because it will clip onto any line that puts pressure on the gate. Could be an issue with fishing lines or lines on wrecks. Not easily deployable either.

The trick to the Scubapro holder is to put the reg in sideways then turn it to proper orientation then insert the plug.

Who or why on earth straps a reg over their head to dangle in the way under their chin
when it can be clipped to a shoulder d ring, and still be immediately reached by mouth

IMHO this is the worst way to inflate a dsmb because there's a much higher entanglement risk. Everything is so close to your face you don't really see what's going on and exhale bubbles won't inflate your dsmb all that well.

Blow up with an exhale into the valve thing (and keep your primary well out of the way, inflate with the octo or inflate with a low pressure hose.

well i use to do it that way but after i took SDI course the instructor show it to me like this it work ok also. I don't know about other agencie.

Nothing wrong with what you have done there except for one thing, if ever I’m attaching a bolt snap to a reg hose always use a “fuse” between your line attachment on the hose and the metal clip, I usually use an “O” ring, this safely accomplishes the wanting the reg hose secured securely and if needed in an emergency even a child will rip the “O” ring easily, of course this also applies to having the reg caught etc,

Hope this helps, and no there is nothing wrong in my view of a clip secured to a reg hose in this way,, been doing it nearly 25yrs now, (in some cases I even use a double ended “P” clip and just a strung “O” ring if using a twin set it can help when wanting your primary out of the way when moving on to stage gasses plus your only using a spare double ended “P” very handy, and you don’t get the Boltsnap rattling around in front of your face area whilst on the dive (or dropping in)

Hope I’ve helped

Your meaning use your exhaust bubbles to inflate the smb, this is 100% correct on OC, 👏 using the purge on any reg will eventually give you a free flow “surprise” a lot of the warmer water divers don’t as the chances are admittedly smaller but I think it’s rather lazy and one day it will happen, yes there are shuttle valves available for second stages but that comes with it’s own complications.
