I've put my compressor buddy in touch with Porter, so hopefully they can work something out. I believe the working plan at this point may be to acquire one of Porter's inventory pieces, then see about getting the original fixed at some point to have as a spare.

And I already have two welders, neither of which is currently suitable for Aluminum, nor is the weldor operating them. But I know some folks who probably know the right people to attempt a fix when the time comes.
 
I ve never ever seen an aluminum pipe on a Bauer compressor, they all were made of steel. Not stainless (unless special ones) but normal, cheap steel.

If you don't get a new one or if it is to expensive simply ask a plumber to produce one for you, it is very easy to do. Add the correct screw connection and it will work.

I recommend using a stainless steel pipe.

We are talking about 2nd stage so no high pressure. Here in Europe you get pipes 8x1mm in stainless, they are certified for 280 bar which is more than enough for 2nd stage.

In the good old days you got spare parts from Bauer for very, very old compressors. They seem to have changed they policy. No spare part after 33 years is no good at all.

Um. It's tubing, not pipe, and it's a cooler, and steel wouldn't be a very smart material because it has a much lower thermal conductivity than aluminum.
 
I believe that the compressor owner has reached out to Porter about acquiring a new piece. Apparently the busted one has been repaired (welded) in the past, so likely a good indication that replacement is the best option here.

simply ask a plumber to produce one for you, it is very easy to do.

I certainly could have done with some of this cooling coil, over the years

We got the new old stock part from @oldairdude installed yesterday and all is good now. Thanks for stepping up with the part, Porter! I know Nick is happy with the outcome on his compressor.

I finally got to see the failure, and it was acutally right at one of the ends where it connects to the head at a right-angle fitting. I think that in a pinch we could have possibly re-shaped the coil slightly and assuming the correct ferrule could be sourced, re-used the old piece. It wasn't a mid-span failure as I had assumed. Basically it lost about a half-inch off the end, right where the ferrule stopped. We're hanging onto the old part just in case that need arises, but if this piece gets another 30? 40? years I think it'll be fine.
