I also believe in hop for older electric units in case of detonation with leaky rings...

I'd caution the dual whip idea as that compressor is not a constant duty design, and may not like that level of work....
I have had a dual whip on my Junior II for over 15 years, done thousands of fills. Never a problem.

What's the run time on Bauer Jr? I know they're not continuous duty... I guess maybe an hr or 2?

I like having 2 whips because it's better for swapping tanks... turning one tank off and one on without losing any gas.

Edit: @rhwestfall cheat sheet added.... it's setup for mine but play with it you'll get the idea. I think it's awesome!!

My compressor is over 23 years old and has done 1745 hours as of this afternoon. It has done 5325 fills. I have run for over three hours over 23 times. I regularly run for an hour or so each time. Still filling perfectly.

How did you find out they last longer? Did you overrun them until air was stinking?

The B timer and I weigh the filters before, midway, end of use
I use them for a few extra grams over the Bauer P21 numbers

How do you fill the stainless tube filters? Carbon and molecular sieve? Or mol sieve / carbon / mol sieve, like in Bauer cartridges?

Do not recall, I suppose the way they are supposed to be filled, the standard way?

Do you press the filling material befor closing the cartridge, like scrubber in rebreather?

Yes I do press, but not like a rebreather, as a rebreather you do Not press
as you need a gap between the limes for the breath to fit between grains
the pressure comes from the lungs, and pressing makes breathing harder

I've seen broken refilled Bauer cartridges 25 years ago and 15 years ago. Happy diver you seem to be very lucky guy.

Happy diver, lucky diver same thing, but you know things break, things don't break plastic formulas vary
you check and use it again or don't. I just like the separated chambers in the Bauer filter don't know why

And yeah my reason, idea for running two whips, but I have an Oceanus, is that the tanks fill cooler
which is really good for me as most of my pumping is to 290bar-4206psi hot then again when cool

Cheers man!

Quite the discussion since I have been gone. Seems quite a few of you have not read the Bauer Bible. @clownfishsydney is the man, read his gospel and be converted.

As for my own compressor, some progress has been made. I really want to try to quiet it as much as possible so I installed a remote exhaust outside the shed. Did not help much at all. Maybe 1 or 2db using an app on my phone but at least the exhaust fumes are outside.

Really gotta find some more flexible tubing, this one is so stiff. It makes a pain to slide the compressor out for use.

Originally tried attaching directly to the oem muffler but there just wasn’t enough of an outer tube to clamp on to, so I just chopped it off. Have some metal tape on the way to make that attachment air tight, definitely noticed some exhaust leaking from there.

I did indeed get filters specifically for gas engines. It doesn’t mention hopcalite but it does say CO catalyst so I’m guessing that’s the same thing.

Also changed both oils. Bauer synthetic for the compressor and Honda 10w-30 for the motor.

Still much to do but we’re getting somewhere!
