we're not diving this weekend, simon, but next weekend. if i am going to have to
dive 80's, i decided to do it locally and skip the mega dive.

and i don't think "you all" is how you spelt that. it's spelt "y'all"

I managed two night dives, but that was all this weekend. Tanks coming soon so should be free to dive at will then. Not around next weekend when you and Fred are meeting up, might be the following weekend for saturday/sunday afternoons.

BTW, i say you all - as in i hope you all have a nice time together, a yawl is a type of two masted sailing boat - main and mizzen masts/sails.

but can you tell the difference between a yawl and a ketch?

:11:

Yes a yawl has the tiller behind the mizzen and a ketch in front of the mizzen, or is it the other way around - that is the difference between them, just cant recall which is one or the other off the top of my head - its been a few years since i seriously sailed, i think the terms are used interchangeably by people who arent sure about it all. I would ask Rick Murchison or Capt Jim Wyatt - they seems quite nautical!

i think the ketch is the more common, and has the tiller fore of the mizzen mast.

if the tiller is aft of the mizzen mast, it's a yawl (fairly uncommon these days)

i haven't sailed anything but a catboat in years, so don't hold me to this def.

I havent sailed many twin masted boats to really know, i have sailed a good variety from 10-50ft through the years, just not lately. There isnt enough wind in FL to really sail, or at least for me there isnt, every time i took my boat out i would sit there for ages waiting for the wind - i know lately it has been windy, but this spring has been a rare occurance since i moved here.

simbrooks, i just read the two posts above... and you know what?

we agreed on the definition!

is this a first?

It might be a first for you to say the same thing as me, but when it is essentially copying my answers then how can i say the opposite to you? Usually i am right, you are the opposite of whatever standpoint i make - on this occasion i think you saw the error of your ways and just agreed with me!

Now we must get off this boat ID course before PADI makes another specialisation out of it! Get back to real cyber diving for another week until there is a chance to get wet on a weekend again.

Oh if we could get you, me, Fred and Ben to agree on something, that would be a miracle, sometimes there are only two out of those four who agree, four out of four would be like getting all aces in poker, or harder than that.

I thought the proper usage was, "Yawl come fishin' with me. Maybe we'll ketch sumpthin'."
