Well, I'm not sure all went exactly as planned, but Kent (DiveDoggie) and myself had a great time!!

Kevin (ABQDiver), it's a shame that we were not able to do a dive together, or hang out and talk more. Next time we will work it out better! At least we got to stare at you (and wonder what the ELL was up) while you were playing lost victim. I have to say, you played a very convincing role as both of us made sure we saw bubbles when we passed by both times. The *STARFISH* pose was quite dramatic :D

Don, unfortunately my Drysuit became a wet suit as after my second dive, I had a cup or so of water in both feet!! Fortunatley it turned out to be a neck seal issue (operator error) and not a problem with the suit. I needed to go back to the hotel and dry the thing out, and check the seals and seams for leaks before I could dive again. By the time we got back I guess you had decided to leave which was too bad because we had a very nice dusk dive with Hillary, and another very enjoyable dive in the morning.

Joe, it's unfortunate that you had ear issues. Maybe work on clearing more often, but unfortuately ear problems are all to easy to run into even if you think everything is fine. I wish we would have known you were waiting at Josephs? We were there at 7:00pm as our last dive ended just after 6:00pm. Had we known you were wating, we would have got their sooner as Kent and I layed about the hotel for 30 minutes or so before getting the call from Hillary that she was on her way.

Hillary, it was excellent to meet you, dive with you, and hang out with your family at dinner. Our scheduled dinner party for 14 turned into an enjoyable dinner for six. It was nice meeting your husband and kids, and we will definately try and let you know when we head back down. Dispite the fact the hole is not the dives any of us dream of, my Drysuit skills improved 100%, and it was VERY fun just to get out and get wet (or Dry).

I hope your daughter is feeling better, and it's too bad you missed the Sunday dive. Maybe we can do Channel Island together! I'll have to look into airfare, but I've allways wanted to dive there, and you seem like you'd be a good guide!

Next time we should DEFINATELY do the picnic thing if the weather forecast is at all promising, as I regretted not doing it this time around. We should also plan on staging together, as having people spread out all over the parking lot resulted in our schedules getting off. While I'm not into *group* buddies, it certainly would have been fun to all be in the water at once. And as far as that goes, the threesome buddy system worked very well for myself, DiveDoggy, and Hillary!! We had a VERY nice twilight dive.

Nice to meet everyone, and we will definately plan on hooking up again! :05:

It was good to meet you all, :thumb: dive with Jo & Hillary, and all. It might have worked better if we'd had a little more compatibility on the timing, but - it was nice.

Jo left after lunch. We kept thinking the rest of y'all would catch up to us, but I guess your next dive took longer? I went back to the Hole and set up my tarp, chairs, BC & tank, etc - then laid down for a nap in the pickup. With Kevin busy, Jo gone, Hillary & clan off setting up hotel camp, Ron & Kent off working on a dry suit, the fly-boy :pilot: a no-show, etc - I woke up at 3pm - after 3 hours in a drying wetsuit and decided I was in the mood to save a nights hotel room. I guess I should have driven in that morning like everyone else. We'll give it another shot next time.

I called the Best Western Adobe manager and apologized for over reacting. Their rooms are much larger, and the sound insulation better. Next time I'll take my own chord and plug in at the room to ensure it works before unloading the truck. :D

    Hi RMO's!
We were all definitely a bit OFF on our timing for dives and surface intervals. I thought that it would be ok though, with a nice dinner to get to know one another. Well, it didn't go exactly as planned, but no big deal!
    I echo Ron's post.
It was great to at least MEET everybody, and the dives were fun!
Dinner with Hillary, Ed and their kids was really nice!

We'll all do it again sometime soon; maybe in the tropics!

    Hello all...

Well the timing could have been better but it was a fun time. Definitely an experience...I felt like bouyancy was more difficult in fresh water? Maybe I was slightly overweighted?? I know we discussed any current from the water exchange...who knows? At any rate...it was a lot of fun!!

Too bad Jo had ear troubles. And Don left early. :( That left just Ron and Kent for my children to terrorize. :) For the record, my daredevil caught a cold. IMAGINE that. Theoretically, jumping off of rocks 15 feet into 61 degree water below in 45 degree weather is not supposed to cause a cold, right????

Well I'd love to be the escort around the Channels if anyone wants to plan a getaway! great to see y'all!

well I can't speak for anyone, but I know I'll be in CA on May 3rd either diving or working on a boat... or both!!

May 3rd is Chamber Day, which is a big day annually to raise funds for the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber. The chamber is manned by mostly volunteers, and maintains a 24/7 365 readiness on volunteers and only 2 paid staff (last time I checked)

Each May, the dive boats out of San Pedro, Redondo, and Long Beach donate their monies collected that day to the Chamber. Usually $100 or so for 3 dives off of Catalina Island, and a tour of the hyperbaric chamber. That evening there is a sit down dress dinner at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. Dinner is served, drinks, etc. Many of the dive shops around LA donate dive gear for a raffle drawing. Coolest of all, IMHO, is that you get to wander around the Aquarium after hours looking at the critters. (See my blog for the show put on by the Giant Pacific Octopus last year after lights out.)

The event raises almost a third of the chambers annual operating budget. Last year's total was over $90,000. As a two time visitor to the chamber (one for training...the other for evaluation after a bad dive.) I've come to appreciate the service the chamber offers so I try to support it in anyway I can. And...it's alot of fun! :)

Okay, I did finally get around to downloading what pics I got from the weekend. Did not get everyone, as I just didn't have my land cam at hand at times, and I think my strobe failed me on the dive shots - some of the were worse than what I loaded here :11: - but I did load a few on the Gallery: follow this link.
