Are you manually focusing with the diopter on??
Depends but the auto focus on the camcorder is very good with sufficient fill for macro.
If it has stuff around the subject that confuses it, I'll auto focus initially then lock focus and "rock" back and forth till I find the sweet spot focally.
This is murder with a moving subject.
The handicap with the diopter is to focus it has to be very close and not all marine life cares to be that intimate with me......
