When I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed, the butcher [sorry, oral surgeon] cracked my lower jaw bone [mandible]. Took six months to heal and no diving during that time. Even today, several decades later, an oral x-ray will show the bone's repair lines. I feel your pain.

In addition to consulting your dentist, it wouldn’t hurt to call DAN and speak with one of their diving doctors. Physicians vary widely in their understanding of the physiological effects of diving.

My experience with diving and oral surgery (thankfully it was years ago) was that if done properly, there is little risk once the wound has healed to the point where it’s essentially impervious to infection. Better to be safe than sorry.

The BIG issue is infection;
Agree,,,The other issue is the OP doesn't state if it is going to be fresh water diving or the Much Worse Salt water diving. We don't even get in the ocean with any open cuts no matter how much duct tape you use. Ocean Staph infections will kill you in 3 weeks.

While looking through KISS socials a couple of days ago, I came across by chance a DAN (Europe) medical officer that’s also a DDS ; @BORG might be a great idea to reach out to her

i have sHi guys,
I am going to have an existing bridge and back tooth(decayed under the existing bridge) in my upper left jaw removed and replaced with a 3 crown bridge with 2 implant supports on each end. I'm hoping to have the 2 implants done in a close time frame to each other to minimize healing time.

The dental implant surgery should take place by the end of March or first week in April. When do you think I should consider getting back into diving for this summer?

This is the first time I've had dental implant surgery and just wanted to see what others have experienced with this dental procedure and scuba diving.

Thanks for any info.
i have same questions. ive always wondered about pressure and teeth. wouldnt pressure affect crowns and implants .

Pressure affects trapped air spaces. If you've got trapped air in your dental work something's wrong. And in the highly unlikely event there was a problem with trapped air you'd know it as you descended and you would abort the dive.

Non diving medical professionals don't always know the answers so they make up a number. "3 months". Some here say to blindly follow their advice as if it's gospel. I would do my research and make my own decision.
