I had a Vytec go out of cal on the depth also. I talked to Aqua Lung service dept and was told that it cannot be repaired or calibrated. If it's under warranty it will be replaced, if not, it can be replaced for the cost of a new one. The expected life on the computers is around 6-7 years. If he knows something or not, who knows.

Well an up-date: I took the computer to the LDS and he had for a few days and called and said to come pick it up that it was fixed. he also said "don't store computer with wet gear (which we don't). I took it on a river dive and turn it on right before enter the water (all looked good). But when I got to 10 ft. the computer said 0 ft and stayed on for 5 minutes then I had to restart it just to get a psi reading (which stayed on with 0 ft depth for five minutes and I'ld have to restart it again. Tomorrow I am going to call Suuto and see what they say.

Had Vytec for a few years, no problems to date.

My fiance' and I bought Vypers about 2 years ago and haven't had any problems with them... except see my post about my New Toy. I downloaded my profiles only to find out that occasionally I have a DECO tab on my dives - YIKES! Never heard an alarm, don't ever remember it going into deco.
Depth has always been good but I will be checking it during my upcoming Fiji dives with my backup!

When you download the dives, the time resolution is much less fine-grained than when the dive computer is calculating on the fly, and from what I have gathered by examining the results, I believe it logs the deepest depth for the given log point.

So, if you were at 80 fsw at the beginning of a 30-second log period but had ascended to 66 fsw by the end of that log period, your dive computer will have the average depth of that 30 seconds as 73 fsw, but the log will only show you were at 80 fsw for thirty seconds. The larger the chunks of time, the more you'll overestimate. The ultimate example of coarse log resolution would be dive tables, which assume square dives, which *grossly* overestimate non-square dives.

I have had a Suunto D6 for about a year now and have done over 80 dives on it with no problems at all. A guy I sometimes dive with though has a Suunto Stinger which sometimes resets itself to 'land' mode in the middle of a dive! He had it a couple of years though with hundreds and hundreds of dives on it I must be honest.

I was considering purchasing a Dive computer possibly Sunnto but after readind the threads I think I may look at other options. What does anyone think of Sherwood or does anyone have a suggestion I would like a wrist mount with PC download capability.thanks for the info

All manufacturers have some issues.
Personally, I've seen many more issues with Oceanic/Aeris/Sherwood computers (all made by Pelagic) than with Suunto.

Ive used two suunto vypers and never had a single problem. I have been on a dive trip where a DM got the bends bad from a (non-sannto) dive comp that turned out to be reading shallow at depth. I always compare my comp and gauge if im diving deep enough for an error to matter after seeing that happen to an experienced guy.

My Suunto Vyper is awesome, it is the PC software that I had questions about. I've never had any problem with my Vyper and recommend it!
