I hope Sunnto is watching this thread and do something. I was thinking of getting Vyper2. When I asked the price my LDS told me to wait for a while.
I would hope so....

Unfortunately from my experience so far they couldn't care a less.

stiggy:
Reduced...... As I know, it was only ONE year from the begining.

Hossier......when we brought the original Vytecs it was on a two year warranty the last mths they have reduced to one year in Asia.Maybe different where you live

I have the original warranty papers.

so please no finger wagging fella....

If then, you had better clarify more specific region/country instead of Asia when you post next time. Asia includes a lot of countries. That is a way of writing...

The law here says that we have a three year warranty on consumer purchases. Within 6 months after purchase, any fault is assumed to be the fault of the manufacturer and he must prove that it isn´t. After that it must be "determined".

I haven´t heard of any sensor issues with Suunto´s here (except for the odd one) and they are very popular here, almost the standard...

I agree that the customer service you guys describe sounds appaling but my prejudice leads me to believe that it is a regional problem as anything like that would spread like wildfire thru our small diving community here...

ymmv...

DiverBAS:
My Cobra had a depth sensor problem.

I bought it in 2003 here in Hawaii, with a two year warranty. 1 year 11 months after purchase, the depth sensor went bad. I returned it to the LDS where I bought it and it was eventually replaced with a new computer.

And two years later, that computer went bad. I'm still waiting to hear if there is any warranty on the replacement computer or if I am SOL.

To update my situation... after two months at the repair facility in CA, the second Cobra has been replaced with a new computer. So to sum up, the replacement computer that replaced my original computer has now been replaced with a new replacement computer.

When I asked the shop girl at the LDS if this new/replacement computer is under warranty she said, "uh, sure!" ok, for how long? "uh, I dunno"

So if anyone wants a semi-new Cobra computer, check eBay in the near future.... actually I like the cobra, but Happy Diver Wife got me a D6 for my birthday!

My son's cobra went "nuts" the other day at the pool (during rescue class), it showed him at 463 Feet while the pool is only 10 ft! I removed the battery for an hour and re-installed it and got same reading. I then removed the batgtery again and replaced it with a "low" battery and then put the original back in and all seemed fine. Well we went diving yesterday and the depth reading was off about 15ft at first then on the second dive it went "bonkers" again (461 Ft.). I think I'm going to try a new battery and see what happens.

While there's nothing wrong with power cycling to restore the system to a known-good configuration, this isn't Windows we're talking about here. If you're getting loopy readings again, there is a problem that must be addressed, and "rebooting" repeatedly isn't going to get you anywhere useful.

When it goes all loopy on you, you know there's a problem somewhere. If power cycling apparently eliminates the problem, you can assume it was just a temporary glitch or a hard-to-hit bug in the code somewhere, but if the problem persists, something more than a "random" glitch is going on. I wouldn't want to rely on a device in such a state, at least not when my health and well-being is at stake.

I should have mention that he did have back-up (Vyper wrist computer and also citizen aqualand and analog spg). He added the spg even though the cobra's tank pressure reading was right on. The dives also were very conserative (60 ft for 31 min and 30 ft for 42 min with an 1 1/2 hr surface interval).

Hoosier:
So, Sunnto warranty is nothing better than LP..... LOL~~~~

Hey guys,

Get to the point.

OP's subject is how Sunnto handles the warranty issue.

It isn't about whether or not yours is working ok?

lol..........It's global warming & GB's fault....I've said in the past how 'stupid' any computer can be....If you don't believe me, unplug, from the wall the computer you're on now & see how 'smart' it is....BEST all around diving method is the ole dive tables & a good watch......

The above OR stay away from Finnish weemens & Finnish computers......

The subject was simply Buyer Beware. The discussion is about the failure, warranty, and service that Suunto has provided.

Other peoples experience with Suunto computers is CERTAINLY on topic.
