Well many months later and many wasted hours dealing with the apathetic employees and managers at sunnto and the final outcome....

Original response from Sunnto was ...

"d### ###y is going to contact you for exchanging the unit to a band new one, recentely manufactured."

The final response after I was aked to pay 300 plus euros to get a computer with less than 20 dives fixed

"You need to handle this matter with ######## in Thailand. We can not do handle your case here at Finland. "

Sunntto hide behind the suppliers the suppliers pass you on to sunnto its a never ending computer enhanced circle designed to wear you out and hope you give up...

Very very disappointing response to a proven fault that could be potentially very dangerous simply put they dont care.

For a service & warranty wise, there is no reason to buy Suunto anymore. The new one only comes with two years and the replacement only comes with three months warranty.

Get Oceanic or Uwatec. Wise shopper.

No issues here having seen several hundred Vytecs and D9s averaging a few hundred dives on each.

Certainly i'd still buy Suunto, far better than Oceanic and Uwatecs in my book. Also worth noting both those brands also had issues.

Other than batteries ive seen exactly 1 computer die on a dive so far and that was a Mares.

Worth echoing what others have said though - Always carry redundant gauges. That means a timing device, a depth gauge, an SPG and backup tables. Do not trust your life to a single computer of ANY brand.

UPDATE: I called Suunto (back in September) and they had me call their service center (near Chicago). I called them and gave them the ser # and they confirmed that the cobra was purchased from an authorized dealer but they would not warranty the computer without a receit (which I don't have) so I took it to another dealer (back in Sept) and he sent it in and said it should be about three weeks before it would be returned. Well.... I still don't have the computer back (I call him and he always says that he will check on it and call me right back, which he never does!). I am beginning to regret ever buying a Suunto!!!

Well, after my on-going problems with my Uwatec Aladin Pro, I was considering buying a Suunto. After reading this thread, I will probably be looking elsewhere.

These are essential parts of my safety equipment. I'm beginning to wonder if diving with just two computers is enough to be safe!

I just got a call from LDS and my Cobra is in. According to him, Suunto replaced the computer with a new one. I have to pay $30 for shipping and insurance but I have no problem with that. I'm not sure about warranty (on new computer) but I'll ask Monday afternoon when I pick it up.

Suunto Mosquito went through the same @#$ a couple of years ago...mine is working fine since they replaced it twice :)

Aha, so this is the thread Dr Bill was talking about the other day at the dive park! Well, my D9 came in from Aqua Lung today (after being backordered for 2 months) and is sitting right here in its box.. I am looking forward to diving with it, but after reading this thread it looks like a good idea to have an spg handy.. lol. Good thing I only paid $600 for the D9 (yep, brand new). :D
