However, I am surprised at the skew toward the Predator. I figured the three factors would be distributed, also, based on each person's experience. Definitely unexpected.

I'm not ... although it would be interesting to find out if the people who voted have ever used the "competing" product. People tend to vote for what they chose ... often without anything more than "intellectual" comparisons with other products to go on.

Personally I'm not going to vote, because I've only used one of the two products ... so I don't have a real basis for comparison.

Most of them talk to each other, though. I half expected the Liquivision to get props for usability, given how people enthuse about the tapping capabilities. I wonder, though, how much of that was reversed due to some of the now-fixed early issues.

exactly as bob said - i can't vote intelligently because i've never used an x1. i did, however, just come into a xeo, so hopefully i'll have some liquivision/shearwater comparisons to talk intelligently about in the future.

and there are used ones trickling on to the market all the time. don't spend $1500.

Disclaimer first: I am a LiquiVision dealer, and I own and dive an X1 with V-Planner Live.

Recently I had the opportunity to dive with a prototype of the Hollis PRISM 2, which has a Shearwater PPO2 controller. Nice unit, display is easy to read, the interface is intuitive. Here's a picture of the Shearwater and an X1 on my wrist on a deep dive.

I will echo Wookie's sentiments: get some mixed gas training first, buy the toys later.

The picture is linked because it's too big for SB; if I shrink it I think it becomes too small to see the details of the two units.

Am I the only one that looked for the best algo and software that would keep me alive and then bought the corresponding computer?
When I started diving I read all the books there is to read on deco, since it was the most crucial aspect of the dive. I went to the conclusion that the best algo I could dive was vpm, then I just had to find the software that runs this algo. And of course the unbeatable software running vpm-b was v-planner. It's full of feature and option all what a tech diver could dream of.

Now about the x1:
• I would say its the hogarthian computer. It's straight to the point, all the info you need during a though dive is there. You don't need colors (or any other distracting info) to tells you what's happening otherwise you shouldn't be on this dive.
• the body is full aluminum, no plastic. There is no compartment to screw or unscrew to change the batterie so there is no Oring with potential failure point. The computer in its self has no Oring.
• I love the rechargeable batterie
• no button no failure point, you tap it works.
• it's compact and you can fix it on a bungee mount
• it has 2 ceramic sensor, the screen is so beautiful that on my first dives I couldn't remove my eyes of it.
• it runs the best software available, v-planner live or multideco.

I have had the chance (thanks to my instructor) to train this summer with the Lebanese Navy Seal, it was a wonderful experience. We've done around 25 dives all planned with v-planner all dived with x1 all below 100m, my deepest was at 140m.

So yes I love my x1 and yes I love v-planner.

Nope. :)

Also no. Although I started with V-planner planning all of my dives, due to the research I've seen taking place right here on my little boat, that is research involving real time measurement of microbubbles taken by ultrasound, I have become a true believer in Buhlmann with Gradient Factors. We're not talking theory here, we're talking real-time research.

So, the predator shows 206 feet, the X1 shows 200. is the Predator measuring freshwater, perhaps?

At what dept were you diving?

3 different SmartPro's read as much as 10 feet different in 300 feet of salt water. Exact same model and age computers. I wouldn't get too wrapped round the axle about a 2% difference in depth on 2 different brands of computer.
