All BCD's have at least two ways of dumping air out of them. There is the inflator, a few have a dump by pulling the inflator, then there is dump on the rear left side and some have one on the rear right side.

When you are swimming along and need to dump just a little bit out, what is your preferred method?

1) Do you drop your legs and dump out of your inflator hose?

2) Do you pull the hose to dump?

3) Do you drop your head and dump out of the left rear valve?

4) Do you dump out of the right rear valve?

I usually shift a little vertical and dump out of my inflator hose... that's what I'm most used to doing, and can do it smoothly. I suppose I should learn to use my pull dumps on the bottom of the wing more often, they just never seem to work as well.

Not a fan of pulling on the hose.

Happy 1000th post btw =)

Pull the hose

I twist to the right raising my left shoulder to the highest point and dump out the inflator. I also will sometimes turn a little more head down and keeping my back rightside higher. Then I will dump out the rear. I also make sure to have the dumping valve at the highest point.

I use the inflator dump most of the time. Sometimes I will use the dump on the bottom left of my Oxycheq wing, so far that hasn't worked as well as the inflator.

My BC has the inflator hose pull dump with a one-way valve that prevents pretty much any water from getting in the bladder, so I mostly use that. I only dump air with a raised inflator hose for the initial descent or final ascent, I find it hard to use if I'm not fairly vertical. I have other pull dumps without one-way valves but almost never use them because they annoyingly let water into the BC bladder, and I'm usually not heads down to begin with.

I also twist to the right and raise the inflator, pushing the purge button (I don't like to pull on mine even though it is capable of dumping that way). This works well while I am out videotaping since I often settle to the bottom and dump to reduce bobbing while shooting.

I like to dump the air out from the rear. I use to pull down on my inflater hose, but after riping it off twice, I figured I was just being a little too rough with it. Now that there's a brand new one on, I'd like to keep it that way.

Dump out the rear. I'm usually head down anyway, so this is the easiest.

AHHH, not bored, just working on 1000. :D

(see buddy descent thread...)

When diving my Master Jacket, I use the right shoulder dump - quick & easy.
On the wing, I use the inflator hose, with a quick body twist. The right rear dump is a pain to find & grab.
