When you are swimming along and need to dump just a little bit out, what is your preferred method?

If it's just a small adjustment then I always use the inflator hose. It's much easier to control the amount of air released with the deflate button than it is using any of the dump valves.

If I want to dump air quickly I use the dump valve I have on the upper right front of my BC.

Upper right dump on my BC has a pull cord. It dumps easily if I'm horizontal or vertical.

I usually shift a little vertical and dump out of my inflator hose... that's what I'm most used to doing, and can do it smoothly. I suppose I should learn to use my pull dumps on the bottom of the wing more often, they just never seem to work as well.

Not a fan of pulling on the hose.

Happy 1000th post btw =)

What he said.

Got one of those flashy Mares Airtrim jackets, so just press the button and I'm away, has pneumatic dumps on left shoulder and right rear...also got a manual pull dump on the right shoulder...great piece of kit so far...

I use my rear dump almost exclusively.

Kick a little head-down and then left or right bottom rear dump, depending on where the air is. The inflator hose is finicky about releasing small amounts of air, so it's too much trouble when I'm horizontal. I'd kill for a cord-actuated shoulder dump.

O.k. lets add another question to this.

Those of you who use the shoulder dump - do you do so while kicking? If so, do you ever silt out the bottom because your fins are near it?

Personally I use both methods ie... mainly use the rear left dump, but when ascending and I'm venting from my drysuit, I will occasionally use my hose. I don't have the pull feature.

The reason I prefer to vent using my rear dump valve is to keep my fins out of the mud when I'm near the bottom.

AHHH, not bored, just working on 1000. :D

(see buddy descent thread...)

I wanted something a little more thought provoking for my 1000th post. That said my 1001th post was some inane little pun - back to normal for me.:D

I don't dive overhead environments so I've never been in a position I couldn't ascend a couple of feet to clear the bottom.
