i am headed over to dallas next weekend and was going to stop by over at scuba toys and i was wondering how their prices are compared to anyone else. should i research around and try to find better prices for negotiating power or are they pretty much going to have the best price around?
thanks

Scubatoys gives Scubaboard members a 10% discount which is hard to beat on top of their already great prices.

What do you do for a living? Maybe I'll come over to where you work and try to nickle and dime you out of business!

:D

Scubatoys is among the very best in prices and service. They're a great group over there and many people consider them their "local" shop no matter where they're from. They'll simply buy every piece of gear they get from ST and even send it back to them for service when required.

You are always welcome to shop around but I agree that Scubatoys has very resonable prices and great service. Also, it is really nice to try things on and test them out prior to purchasing. Depending on what you are looking for that can make a huge difference. Basically I say look around all you want but I have had no problems purchasing from them.

Scubatoys is a favorite of SB members. If you contact them in advance and let them know what things you need, you might just get a "package" deal. Those guys want to have the lowest price, no arm twisting required.

im not talking about trying to screw anybody out of business im simply saying knowing better prices. if one place has something listed at $400 and my LDS has it at $550, im going to want to do some negotiating.

Dude you are blowing it, why not go to a state with no sales tax and go all the way. Here's the real deal. There is no online company that will fit you, put you in the pool, check that you are weighted properly, teach you how to dive in your own equipment.

The scuba industry depends on sales from local scuba centers to stay viable. They have tremendous overhead, ( I know not your problem) But what happens to the entire dive industry as the shops close their doors to everyone who is trying to save a buck.
Scuba equipment is life giving and saving equipment. I'm serious here, would you look for the cheapest funeral for your mom? How about a used coffin? My suggestion, find a scuba store near you, start hanging out, take courses, they will give you service and you will start getting discounts as a valued customer. Hope this puts a spin on it for you. J.C.

If you believe in capitalism, find the best price you can, and don't worry about nickeling anybody out of business. For the socialists who'd like to subsidize inefficient businesses, I'd appreciate it if you'd do business with me; everybody likes a fool as a counter-party to a transaction.

Wrong. ScubaToys will.

Wrong again. The shops that can't adapt to the newer business models deserve to go out of business. When they do, someone will step up to fill the gap if there is a market for it. The shops need to earn our business, they do not automatically deserve it. You donate all you want, but when it's my money, they'll earn my business or they won't get it.

BTW, I'll bet ST has more overhead than any other shop you've ever seen.
