I am new to diving...

I am looking to get a diving watch..

What are the top 5 features you guys like on your watches?

#1. Waterproof

have had a bunch. Doxa, IWC, Tag Heuer, Laco etc. But the best of the best are customized Siekos by Bob Thayer Jr in Round Rock, Texas. Super sturdy reliable Seiko automatics (no battery EVAR) and ultra crisp clean easy to read dials. He uses a Noctiluma compound so they are super bright at night and he has a teflon coating that makes then invincible to the elements. The dials are from several different designers so you can recreate your favorite watches that are no longer made. Check him out.

For men, half of the attraction of diving is the excuse to strap on a knife and an expensive watch. I got a huge Wenoka when I first started diving and bought a Rolex Submariner right after my divorce. The Submariner did everything I required of it: attracted women of questionable taste and morality. I still dive with it sometimes. It is useful if you want to be back on the boat by lunchtime, for example. For timing a dive though, a bottom timer or dive computer are much more effective.

I do like that customized Seiko.

Thanks, could not move the screws myself, I was worried about damaging one. However I found a man who could in Penang, a little chinaman in a strip mall outside Kmota. $8 and he gave me new (July 2008) batteries instead of the ones I had purchased in the UK, (2004).
It worked brilliantly in Bali so it was money well spent.
Again thanks for the sugestion.

I routinely replace batteries on my Citizens. Batteries and o-rings are available. A case-back wrench is advised .... if it's an older model it probably has tiny screws.

I still use a Citizen Hyper Aqualand and love it!

I like a nice, reliable watch that is not so expensive I'm afraid to dive with it. I have been diving a Citizen Aqualand Eco Drive for years now and love it. The battery is solar powered so you never have to replace it and the second hand turns into a depth gauge during dives which makes a nice back up to your primary depth gauge.

Make mine an Omega Seamaster Professional. Never dive without it. Makes me feel like James Bond or something...

Same watch here. LOVE IT!

Except that "second hand" you refer to is NOT a second hand... it shows depth when underwater, else charge status... pretty much my only complaint. If it was a second hand, I would love it even more.
